What's the practicality of a tattoo for a performer? I think when done correctly and in the right place, it shouldn't be too hard to cover when necessary. On another related topic, does anyone have any theatre-inspired tattoos or ideas for some?

If you put a tattoo somewhere that is usually covered with clothing you shouldn't have a problem. Generally, on your lower stomach or atramp stamp are good.

My friend actually has the comedy and tragedy masks on her lower back.

Two weeks ago I was considering getting a tattoo on my foot then thought better of it. I want to work for Disney or on Boradway and I realized that it wasn't pratical. Instead, I got it on my lower back (not a tramp stamp. It's off to my left side) It's pratical because no one sees it unless I lift my shirt. So if you're serious about performing, like said, get it in a place that you wouldn't see in normal clothes.

Well, I was thinking of getting a very small one on my wrist or ankle. I know that would require make-up to cover. But, just getting it in a different place does seem like less work. razz I'm defintely going to put some more thought into before I actually get anything done, but thanks to everyone for the help.

That is a good question. I was actually almost going to get one tonight but my biggest delema was finding a place where to put it. Therefore I didn't get one at all.

I refuse to get any tattoo over 1 square inch and more than 2 before I'm an established actress. I'm afraid of anything that would deter a casting director. I probably won't get any even though i like the way the needle feels. I have a tattoo I draw on my foot with pen i want but can't get so i outlined it with about 10 dots with a sewing needle and ink so when i shower and it washes off i know where to draw it back on. So thats the closest to a tattoo that I've got. I don't think some dots are an issue even if i don't cover them up.

I spoke to a professional dresser about this issue recently actually. She said she had to put make-up on this girl's tramp stamp every night for a show and she said the actress cried at one point because of how much she regretted it, and the amount of work that had to be put into covering it up...

so make sure you are willing to put in the effort in hiding them...and putting them in a place where you can get to it properly would be helpful as well...

I have a tatoo, about an inch and a half circle on my shoulder, and plan on getting one the same size on my other shoulder. I haven't had any trouble with either. There's lots of people in my department you have tatoos and they've never complained about having to cover them. Just be sure you have the skills and supplies to cover them if you need to.

Also, if you plan on pursuing any modeling, seriously consider what kind of tatoo you want and where you're getting it.

And don't wear audition clothes that show it, but never lie and say that you don't have one.

Well, I was watching a documentary on tattoos, and apparently they have finally created an ink that only shows under certain types of light (like black-light). It's expensive, but growing popular among business people and some actors.

I've put a lot of thought into where I'd get a tattoo because of my love of performing.
