Kane doesn't keep a diary, but be rest assured that all sentiments expressed here are 100% what he would say regarding the respective situations.

Opinions on fellow villagers

EVERYBODY IS DEAD!!
Seiteki - A sweet mother. He is big on filial piety and would do anything in the world for her. He never fails to think about her every day. She is a great motivation behind his actions and beliefs. Her passing changed his world and life forever.

Hanabira - His darling imotou. He loves to see her smile and his main aim is to make her happy. Now that he's her squad leader he's absolutely terrified, but he's trying to be a great role model for her and the rest of the team.

Hide - He misses him and feels guilty for his death. He's trying to be the man that Hide was.

Tanu - Kane doesn't know Tanu very well, but her physical abilities impress him greatly. He's heard of her past exploits and feels that she's developed well as a shinobi and person.

Kiba - Kane still doesn't know Kiba very well, but he's going to try to get to know him a bit better over the time they're teammates.

Shin - Some kid that Hana likes apparently. Big brother reflexes tingling. After having dinner with him, Kane decided that Shin is worthy of having his sister, and although he wouldn't help him with anything, he wouldn't hurt him either. Shin has grown to become a close acquaintance of Kane's, and Kane was disappointed but understanding of his departure from Shimagakure.

Kazuma - Kane quite likes the little prankster, although he wishes that he wouldn't be so hyper. After seeing another side of him, his feelings towards the boy are complicated. He worries that Kazuma will lead Hanabira into danger or even astray, but at the same time wants to help him.

Ichi - The Kage-sama, Kane is loyal to his mother first, Hana second and Ichi third. Kane has huge respect for the man probably like everybody else in the village. He is absolutely knackered by his disappearance but doesn't really have any relationship with Ichi other than the whole ninja-Kage thing. Nevertheless he holds great respect for the man. He wishes that Shimagakure could get Ichi back as a Kage.

Natamo - He treats her, and all teachers, with respect.

Yuki - A nice person who can be authoritative when need be and cares for her patients well. He thinks she's dedicated to her work.

Shuga - Kane can't help but feel a little awkward around her because... she's incredibly strong... but he still respects her nonetheless especially because she is so outgoing and accepting. He's unaware of her present (dead) status. He's just got the impression that he hasn't seen her around for a while! But he's too scared to ask Maya what happened.

Shinichi - Kane respects the man, and is a little unnerved by him. But he also thinks that Shinichi has valuable advice to offer once you crack his tough exterior. Recently the man has begun to worry him with what Kane perceives to be slightly unstable emotions. This feeling escalated with the coming of the Meho War before peaking at murderous anger after his mother's death. Kane still accepts him as the person at the top but not much else.

Tomoko - She is the crazy jungle woman... pretty funny to watch, though. And also quite interesting. He hasn't seen her for a while. He doesn't really care...

Naru - Some freaky guy who really creeped him out when he was training with Natamo because he stared at him so much... He's disappeared from the island, and frankly Kane is glad. He doesn't know and doesn't care that he's dead.

Maya - He thinks she's okay, pretty rough but she stands up for what she believes in and is passionate. Her strength scares him. He is forever grateful to her after finding out that she and Baki saved Hanabira from death in the Meho war. But still a little scared.

Aya - Aya is famous around the village and he admires her for always being so positive. He's impressed by what he hears of her exploits in the Grass Village base. After meeting her in Shimagakure again he's starting to feel like he's getting to know her better and not just admiring her from afar.

Seshiro - Strong, and interesting not in the good way. There's two sides to Seshiro but at least he is open about that. Kane admired him for always being up to the challenge.

Kana - Known only as 'Kazuma's brother'. Oh, and 'Aya's guy'.

Sukotto - A BEAST who is absolutely amazing at combat, and a nice guy to chat with. Kane recently entered his mind and was chilled by what he encountered inside. However, he still has nothing but the utmost respect for this guy.

Kanami - A smoking hot Hyuuga chick Kane met recently. He enjoys her company and is totally unaware of her perverted tendencies, at least right now. He may not be one to talk since he checks her sizeable rack out as well when they talk, but nobody can beat Hyuuga Kanami in matters of the heart in the mind.

Xyn - He finds it interesting how someone so different to Maya is, arguably, the closest one to her bar Baki.

Kei

- He talked with her a little before she left. He loved her beautiful long hair.

Karite - A pretty chilled out guy, Kane wants to hang out with him and get to know him more. When they both have time...
Well, too much time has passed and he's forgotten who he is, other than "He is Shisei-kun's teammate".

Shisei - Quiet kid in the corner who is interesting as well. After being his partner in the first stage of the Sports Festival Kane learned a lot more about him, eg. his intelligence as well as his lack of tact.

Orika - Like with Shuga, he's overawed by her muscles and strength.

Serena - He doesn't actually know her by name.

My mother is dead. I can't believe it. Hanabira is in the hospital and Maya found my mother's bloody corpse lying on the ground.

You must know what is happening, Father. Do you know?

Do you know that Mother is dead?

Are you even worried about us at all?

If you knew, what would you do now?

Personality:
Age 14: Kane is quite optimistic but often prefers to just pretend the things that he doesn't like don't exist. He refuses to talk about them. He's also quite the city boy and needs some time to get used to village life. He can be quite hotheaded and sometimes resorts to violence to solve things. Like his brother was, he is quite intelligent, though he mostly operates on instinct. He sort of never tried to unlock the intelligent side of his brain. Secretly he misses his father quite a lot though he would never admit that to anyone, not even Hide when he was alive. Also if you are close enough to him he will do anything for you. Kane also likes to have a chat with girls! He finds it mentally fulfilling and totally good, and he actually understands their language.

Age 15: After the Tonato mission, where Hide died, and the Orochi mission, where everything went to hell, Kane has sobered quite a bit. He no longers bears as much optimism and instead holds a neutral, if not jaded outlook to life. He has small mood swings and is prone to huge mental introspection at the expense of outside conversation. His brother has become even more important to him even after his death. He is extremely big on filial piety, and his mother and Hana are his most precious people. He doesn't really have any other friends, because he's become rather distant... All he usually does is hang around and make small talk in between training. When he's not training, he's usually brooding. He tries not to brood, but he can't help it. It just comes naturally to him. When he broods his health tends to falter. It doesn't actively get worse, but he takes far longer to recover from injuries or illnesses.

Spring 1, Year 105

I reached Hanton today for the day-long chuunin tournament. It was all right. I did what I was supposed to and came out with a promotion, but not without a bunch of drama happening in between. Our tournament came under samurai attack, and we had to fight them off. Apparently there was an official declaration of war in another arena while I was still fighting. And one other thing happened... but, it's really hard to talk about. I'll write about it later.

Anyway, once we got off the boat, we were led to our respective arenas. Empress San - the empress of Hanton, she's really beautiful - made a speech, and the fights began. My opponent was somebody from the Tea Country. He looked quite young but I had the feeling he was older than he looked. It was mostly a statemate because both of us were long-ranged fighters, I think, although I did spend more time hiding than attacking. I still managed to land a good few hits, though, but I'll need to be training more with this weapon soon.

All this was just a warm-up for the events that were to come, however. While Tea guy and I were fighting, the arenas were attacked by samurai. I was instructed to rush to the prison to help interrogate a guard, presumably because of my techniques. Although I don't know how they knew about it... maybe they didn't, and it was just a coincidence.

I found Kun'Kumo Kazuma in the prisons. I barely had time to ask him why he was there and persuade him I was friendly when a commotion broke out in the other cell, where Sukotto-san was interrogating the only prisoner we'd managed to capture. To my surprise and horror, it was Sukotto-san advancing upon the helpless, disarmed and bound samurai. Kazuma-kun and I immediately rushed to subdue him, him with a shuriken and me with my Mind Body Technique.

Sukotto-san had not been himself. He had been possessed by a malevolent force that haunts me even now, but I managed to drive him off, just temporarily. Has Sukotto-san been living all this time with this personality within him? That must have been terrible...

Eventually it was time to return to Shimagakure, which is where I got my promotion from our Kage.

What Kage-sama said (direct quote): "If the chuunin exams tested you on speed, you would never be allowed to participate for fear of embarrassing Shimagakure. I would say that a real shinobi needed to be quick and focused. He should also be able to judge the situation and act accordingly. Obviously the chuunin exams were to test your ability to use different techniques that world leaders could see you blasting off in the middle of secret missions. Those are obviously the people who don't understand the shinobi arts. We are no samurai fighting for glory. I spoke to Sukotto and it seemed as if he had some instinctual, very primitive, and very, very powerful force controlling his body. I am proud of you for being able to overcome that. From now on, consider yourself a true shinobi."

Thanks, Shinichi. Really, thanks. Your words were as hard to decipher as usual, and I still hate you as much as ever, but... it was good of you to acknowledge the small merit within me.

Spring 3:
-Departed on the Kun'Kumo mission with Hanabira, Tanu, Kiba, Aya and Kazuma
-Reached Onbin Kashou, but was informed that village had befallen a horrible tragedy with many dead and critically injured
-Set sail for Shimagakure, but was attacked by a person with a mask with weird markings, a veil and a cowl. Ship sunk.

Summer 1:
-Washed ashore?

Spring 2, Year 105

-Arrived at Shimagakure
-Shin left Shimagakure, Hanabira took his place in the team
-Met up with his team (Tanu, Kiba, Hanabira) and trained on the beach
-Trained... before dismissing team
-Fire at Housing District - ran to help put out flames
-Met Kanami
-Made a bad impression on Kanami's... guardian?
-Gave Kanami his jacket...
