Nalfein paced beneath a tree nervously, treading grass underpaw and causing the fresh smell to dance up to his nose. He looked about him at the quiet serene woods, taking comfort in the gentle breeze and the temporary solitude. He knew he was to meet someone here, one of the only ones in all of Namiah that didn't make him nervous enough to fly into the nearest bush and hide for hours. He was still rather nervous, and he continued to switch back and forth between pacing beneath the tree and pausing to look all about him.

Nessa sprinted through the forest, narrowly dodging bulging roots and protruding branches. She was heading toward a place she had only been a few times before, a clearing in the woods where her friend waited for her. She prayed she wasn't too late, or that he hadn't forgotten their plan. Since they had both grown, they hadn't seen eachother as much as they once had. She exhaled deeply as she ran, trying to catch her breath. Suddenly, she skidded to a stop, catching sight of her close friend Nalfein. Smiling, Nessarose walked toward him, still breathing hard from her mad dash through the trees.

Nalfein perked his ears up and turned to see Nessarose approaching. The usual urge to turn and flee at the approach of a girl was much easier to squash with her than with any others, but it still made itself felt. He sighed inwardly; it would probably never go away. He smiled and tried to look as though he had not been waiting long, which in fact he hadn't. "You look a little out of breath; was something chasing you? Or......were you just that excited about meeting me?" He turned his head sideways and a tiny hint of color appeared on his cheeks.

Nessa felt her own cheeks color as she furiously shook her head in embarrassment. She was rather uneasy around Nalfein lately, and had been for a while. She wondered when it had started; around the beginning of their adulthood? She shook her head again, and scratched out a quick reply in the dirt before them. No...running very fast...but glad to see you! A hastily sketched smile soon matched the one on her face as she nudged her head lightly against Nalfein;s shoulder by way of greeting.

Nalfein lowered his head so he could read the marks in the dirt, and smiled as he understood their meaning. "You know, that's pretty amazing. I don't think half of my family can even spell 'running', let alone write it out." He grinned to match the smiley face and gently nudged her back. "I'm glad to see you too. It's been too long; and too noisy with all the others."

Nessa giggled at the comment. She had been forced to learn reading and writing at an early age, and often envied Edelweiss, who was also mut, but who could communicate telepathically. Much easier. She nodded, agreeing with Nalfein's every word. She sat back on her haunches, wondering what they would do now that they were together again. Her paws itched to scratch out the writing and begin again, but she kept them resolutely still.

Thinking almost the same thing, Nalfein leaned his head to one side and scratched an ear, thinking. "Hmm, well.....what shall we do? PLay a game? Or maybe just sit and chat? I mean....I didn't mean CHAT chat, since you can write....well, I guess it can still be like chatting, except it.....aww, crud." He belt down and hid his face with one front leg, thoroughly embarassed.

Nessa blushed, tingeing her fur with pink. She knelt down to be at eyelevel with Nalfein and patted his shoulder awkwardly, as if to reassure him. She didn't know what to do; she was not the type of namir that was able to decide things, after all, but she felt that she needed to decide on something t stop Nalfein from feelin so nervous and embarrassed.

Nalfein looked up, his own face tinged with color, but luckily harder to see due to his dark coloring. He mumbled, "Sorry; it's kind of a habit. I know yer not going to do anything to me if I mess my words up, but I can't help it; that always happens around girls, if I'm even there to look 'em in the face." He sighed a little, then brightened. "So, how about that game?"

Nessa smiled and gregariously licked his cheek. She snaked out a paw and quickly scrawled "Which shall we play?", eager to move forward from the awkward moment.

((Short happens? sweatdrop ))
Nalfein read the scrawl and thought a moment. "Well, there's tag, hide n' seek, or........maybe we could find a spot with lots of dirt and just draw stuff!" He smiled, the thought just now coming to him. "I don't draw as much as you do I'm sure, but it could be fun.....unless you'd rather do something else, since you probably draw a lot."
