I love Brave New World. Also a fan of dystopian literature. Read this recently, right after re-reading 1984. Loved the contrast between the two books. Interestingly enough, Orwell's future was much more disturbing to me then Huxley's...I actually didn't really sympathize with the Savage...0.o

Miyoko548 Karhd I tried reading this book, but it's not working for me. crying I can read almost any type of book, but this one isn't drawing me into it. I can't get into the book. gonk I personally think it's an okay book, but I don't love it. cry How far are u into the book?? It is a little slow to get into, a lot of it is a little slow actually.... Have you ever read 1984....its a similar book, in a genera and basic subject material. I liked that one too. maybe you could try that one. I made it to about the middle of the book. I guess I'll try 1984. My friends had to read it in high school, but I didn't. I'm going to try to fonosh this book though, but it's sooo hard. crying

I love this book, I read it 5 years ago the first time, and at first I wasn't so sure about it. But its just well done in the way that it shows problems with society. I like the main character in this one more than 1984, and how is evolution moves forward even in a society that isn't unlike the character in 1984 who seems to have a deevolution at the end. I'm a huge fan of utopian books and the different ways they compare our society's problems and how the desicions we make could easily lead us down these roles. Mass appeal can force the few who dissagree to be forgotten, or to assimilate to stay alive. In a lot of ways its the same ways one stays alive in countries of totalitarian rule, you can't disagree with what's being done without possible harm to yourself so continue on. I find these books intriguing because like in 1984 the parody was of Communism and what it had become, the sad part is is that some of it was what was really happening in the USSR at the time. A more fantastical book along this same genre is by Tanith Lee, well actually her 4bee series.

I liked both of the books.

I read this in High School and it was one of the few books that I was glad that the school made me read. I didn't like the book really til I was done with it.

I enjoyed this book. I didn't like the writing style so much, but it made me think.
In a society where everyone is happy, I wonder why the people were so fascinated by John's whip. Perhaps a part of human nature desires pain and suffering. Or perhaps seeing someone else suffering justified their own supposed 'perfection'.

I had to read this book over the summer for school. I understood all of it, the symbolism, how close it is to our science and world (just hyperbolized), and everything else. Still, I hated it. It was an "angry read" for me. On the other hand, I absolutely loved 1984, even though it gave me some sad and scary nightmares about telescreens. Maybe it was just a simple style of writting. Orwell wrote with a tone of hatred and fear. It felt that Huxley was just telling me a story and informing me.

Overall this was a pretty good book but the ending was a bit of a letdown for me.

I read this book before I joined this guild, and when I saw that y'all read it, I was like, wow... Actually, I hated this book. With a passion. There's probably a reason for that...because we had to read it in English class. And when I expressed my opinions about it (saying they were basically building their own races and being racist against them), they were shot down. Every opinion that I had about this book, someone shot it down, saying, "That's stupid, that's wrong, why would you think something like that?" And when that happens to me, that makes me hate whatever book I'm reading, because it's like I'm not allowed to have an opinion on it. Heh, ranted longer than I intended to... sweatdrop
