It's a beautiful lie,
It's a perfect denial...

Now, I love this planet and I'm all for making it a better place, which is why I pick up other people's trash, and use paper grocery bags as trash bags. Now most people, even if they do nothing else for the environment, try to recycle at least a little, because we've all been told how great it is for the environment, but is it really? If you look at all of the facts you find that there is little to no good gained by recycling most anything. (The exception being aluminum cans. It saves more money and resources to recycle them then to bury them.)

For example: paper. If we recycle paper it is picked up in the special recycling truck, and taken to the plant where it is first resorted and then sent to the next step. After being resorted, it is washed and bleached to get all of the ink off. Next it is turned into pulp and pressed , treaded into paper again. Now lets look at how they make paper from scratch, and what happens to it when you throw it away.

First they go to the forests they are grown and maintained for the sole purpose of being made into paper, so that the old growth forests are never touched. next they take the trees to be stripped and chopped. After that they mulch it and process it into paper. When you throw this away it goes to the landfill that has multiple layers of sand, clay and gravel to filter all water that runs through the trash. it stays there and decomposes and when the landfill is full they cover it with many more layers of sand, gravel, clay and dirt and plant trees and plants above it. The end result looks like a nice parklike area.

Now lets compare the resources and wastes that each method consumes and produces. Recycling: Takes a whole other truck(which wastes gas), takes up time and energy having to resort everything, creates polluted waste water by cleaning the paper, uses up electricity by having to be reprocessed.

From scratch: The trees are planted for the purpose of being made into paper so in effect there are now MORE trees, the trucks haul the trees by the tons thus saving on trips made, and no waste water is produced because the scratch paper is already clean.

Which method seems to be more earth friendly to you?

I love the angle your taking, but however, might I invite you, and anyone whom takes a look at this thread to take a look at these?

I'll use the same arguments: Recyling, sure it can help the environment on the physical level, but all the resources used to transport said items to the specialized plants takes gas to run both the trucks and the plants, thus polluting the air, and destorying the ozone layer. Furthermore, with the constant increases on all prices the process to recycle items are not only expensive, but econmically unsound: all the extra waste has to go somewheres.

Thank you, I tried find that episode, but they had just purged the system when I went looking for it or something, cause I couldn't find anything more then a couple of clips.

i would have to say that reclycling would only help us make the world cleaner but in my opinoin....this world is close to coming to an end.

It isn't helping anything. Most recycling places just take the reycled garbage and throw it away. I'm not saying it is bad to recycle. I am just saying it isn't going to save the planet.

So you don't think that we should try and take care of the world that your god gave us? And My point was that it's not makeing anything cleaner, and it isn't helping.

There is that, but my point was that even what is recycled just adds more waste then it eliminates.

recycleing is important.what we dont recycle goes to and fills and a plastic bottle will last longer than we will.

This is a really tough debate but i would say i am for recycling, eventhough it does take alot of gas and thus comes exahust, also the energy to run the plant on where it is recycled.... I think we should grow hemp for our paper and clothing... but still recycle plastic, aluminum, and glass.

I would say that if something is going to be recycled, recycle it. We're screwing up this world, and at some point, the only thing we'll have left is a large desert/wasteland.

I suppose that with entropy, everything will eventually disappear. We can do our part to help put that off by recycling.

So, what i'm really trying to say is that we've only got one planet, and we have to treat it well. Right now, we're definitely not doing that.

what most people don't realise is that for the most part nonrenewables are not recycled at least by the private sector. We exchange nonrenewables like coal and oil to process renewable resources like paper-from trees, Glass-from sand the most abundant substance on earth,
or plastic also crated from sand. So if you look at this pragmatically more emmissions are created at very little bennefit especially when only 3% of recycling comes from the home the rest is from the workplace.

It is helping, albeit not as quickly as needed. Forests are still being destroyed, but not as many if people did not recycle. It would be ideal if everyone recycled, but then there are people who don't think recycling works and therefore do not recycle.

yes. very much. some people think well its just a few cans and bottles. it wont do that much. but by incouraging those around you to recycle then it will spread on. try starting a recycling group in your neighborhood. every little bit helps. we should all come together to help the earth because its our fault that it is the way it is now
