i'm a high school senior and my university doesn't march flutes. it's probably too late in the game for me to join marching band my freshman year of college, but i wanna find an easy flute switch so i can learn the instrument freshman year and then march it in sophomore year. so between piccolo and alto sax..which is the easier switch?

Piccolo would be the easiest switch from Flute, because it's basically a smaller Flute.
Though, it's always handy learning a new instrument, and learning a new instrument in a year shouldn't be too hard. (I have to learn a new one in two weeks. xd )

piccolo should be easier because its basically the same instrument, just smaller.

Piccolo would be easier, 'cause it's got all the same fingerinngs and everything. But alto sax would probably be funner.

Piccolo is definitely easier, everything's the same just smaller. But yeah, either one you probably won't be able to march freshman year, unless they have a desperate need for the instrument.
Oh, and piccolo is a million times awesomer than the alto sax. Seriously. Don't you want the power to make people's ears bleed? heart

well in general Sax is easier, but from Flute , you might as well pick Piccolo (lol, i could make a tongue twister out of that) since the fingerings and notes are similar

this is the same delema i have. i want to switch to either the piccolo or alto for music next year but i really dont know which one to switch to. piccolos can be pretty annoying when they are playing super high but altos dont have many melody parts

its going to be the picalo you don't have to learn new fingerings or a new embouchure

...bands who march with flutes are to cheap to afford piccolos! piccolos are awsome!! but if you switch you might wanna go for alto sax because flute is alot harder to play...believe me...
