Allow me to let you all in on a little secret about Mr. Alexander coming from a rabid Seahawks fan up in the great Pacific Northwest... He's done... I love Shaun Alexander as a man and as a performer, but the latter half of that equation is gone. Any team that is looking for a Shaun to be what he was a few years ago is kidding themselves. He was so bad last year that Hawks fans were screaming for Maurice Morris... MAURICE MORRIS!!! You should have heard the crud he took on sportsradio up here, it was rather rediculous. This is a player who never hit the hole hard and who was never willing to grind out two yards unless it meant 6. He is one of the best goal line players of this era, but you have to put it into context. Walter Jones is the best Lineman in the NFL, ask around. Some commentators will even rank him as the best PLAYER in the NFL. I think he's slightly overrated, but he is a first ballot HOF'er. Then you place Steve Hutchinson at the left Gaurd spot and you are talking about the best Gaurd in the NFL. There was a reason Alexander was so great for those couple years. So, if you have an O-Line that matches that one, take a shot on Shaun. If not, you'd be better off signing a young back who is hungry to get on the field and make a name for themself, because they are going to consistently run 20x harder than Shaun ever did. Thanks for the memories and the wins Shaun, but real NFL fans need to see things like they are, with objectivity. You were a stat monger, but you will never be remembered as a hard nosed runner.

You make a lot of sense, and you probably know a bit more than I do since you're a Seattle fan. Yet, I slightly disagree.

...After winning an MVP, an athlete may sit back a little, knowing that they are the #1 for their franchise. They don't have much to prove, and don't think that anyone could replace them. This is exactly what Alexander did, following his stellar 2005 MVP season. He was plagued by injury, and didn't think of that as much of a factor. He didn't hit the hole as hard as he used to. Shaun also didn't fight for the extra yards, which he was known for earlier in his career.

Now, searching for a new team, Alexander has much to prove. A Dallas #2 and an inexperienced backup from Seattle both took his roster spot for the Seahawks. For his new team, he will try once again to be the primary back which he's capable of. I predict him to thrive with a new team, if he is injury-free and has the right mindset to be a 'tough' running back.

carolina should try 2 get him to help there new rookie rb plus all there other offence improvements

If the Panthers were to make another move during their offseason, then they would probably try to improve their secondary, get offensive lineman, or get a young QB. They don't have room for another RB, and probably don't have the cap room to sign Alexander who's worth pretty big free agent money. The Carolina backfield is fairly deep, with Jonathan Stewart, DeAngelo Williams, LaBrandon Toefield, and Nick Goings.

i think hes gunna retire

I doubt it. Shaun Alexander has already reported that about 4 teams have contacted him about possible workouts. He had a very bad season last year, and is underestimated. He can still play at a high level.

i dont know but anything could happen

He'll probably sign a short term deal with at fairly smaller value, pretty soon. I think he'll be signed by mid August. At least the third week of preseason games.

Just because the Jordan is younger, and his contract will be much cheaper. The Patriots needed a cheap guy, to play number three, behind Maroney and Faulk.

Alexander should get signed pretty soon. I think that the Lions, Bengals, Broncos, Texans, Dolphins, and Cardinals would all be interested in bringing Alexander in to camp. Maybe not a starter, but a good backup and mentor to the younger guys. I personally think he has some gas left in him, too.

i still think he is 1 of the best rb's in the league a couple bad season's then u suck no i remember when brady didnt make playoffs dose that mean he suck's

if somebody suddenly goes down hill and continues that way for 2 years then that pretty much means they aren't gonna get any better. plus he's about 32 now (am I right?) and the average athlete is at the top of their game at 28 years old. I think overall he's one of the best running backs in NFL history, but currently there isn't much he can do.

I'm still surprised nobody picked up Alexander yet. He's a veteran leader, and I think he's got some left in the tank. It was just one bad season, but I was surprised that Seattle just abandoned him, without renegotiating a cheaper contract.
