Hello everyone! It's been a while...

Anyways, it is Andrew Lloyd Webber night on American Idol tonight and David Archuletta just sang a pop version of "Think of Me" (Even ALW was impressed!) and David Cook sang "Music of the Night!"

Personally, it wasn't what I was used to, but I thought David Archuletta was terriffic! I never thought about adapting the song for a guy. (though I wouldn't recomend him for an actual production of POTO, he's too pop lol)

David Cook's "Music of the Night" was really powerful (but, once again, I wouldn't cast him as Erik in the actual production, though I would for an ALW concert!). His voice is a really nice combination of smooth and rough. Very beautiful! Wow!

Kudos to both Davids! heart

(lol I have a feeling that American Idol-viewing phans will soon be drawing phan art of the Davids as Erik and Christine!)

Anyways, let's discuss! biggrin

DX

American Idol, no matter what, is still fail in my mind.

Of course, my friends who know I'm a Phan were bugging me about it all day..."Why didn't you watch the POTO songs? OMG!!1!"...>_>

But my Phriend said that they sounded good, so I'll take her word for it. And yours. XD

I never watched American Idol, but I made sure I watched this week. I pretty much had an orgasm with Cook's 'Music of the Night'...

I only caught the last three, though, which I didn't really mind... How were the other three?

I saw all of ToM. And I watched about 10 seconds of MotN before I got bored.

I'd have to say for both songs, they were okay, but nothing special. :/ It was an interesting take on ToM though.

I only listened to it a bit confused

I personally liked David Archuletta's rendition of ToM better, mostly because it was more original.

But how quickly we forget
Such a sure and perfect plan,
And unlearn the passions that once had burned.

Eh, I'm a classics girl. I can't stand when rock singers sing MotN *cough Gerry Butler I'm looking at YOU cough* because it really messes up the song. Same for ToM. It's not supposed to be pop/jazz, as showtunesy as it is.

I just don't like when things are done in the wrong genre. Adagio/Anytime is one exception.

But how could I have seen?
What was I to do?
How could I know I would find you?

I was pretty happy to listen to the songs, because I wanted to see what the heck the contestants would come up with, whether they would make the songs sound cool or totally mess it up.

I actually think doing familiar songs in different genres is really exciting and awesome. I just didn't care for the singing in this particular case, but I still think it was a creative way to perform it.

I was a bit iffy about a guy singing ToM, but was pleased with Archuletta's rendition.'Cook did a great job as well, and though I prefer the original songs, Im happy that PotO keps making apearances everywhere, that way more people can learn of it and see how amazing it is!!
