It was mid-afternoon by the time everyone from the Menagerie got underway, and even later when they finally pulled to a stop outside Tera's house, the car parking near the truck Trio had taken. In all, two adults, a toddler, a pard, and a Zurui dismounted, peering at the gate curiously. It was Dalreidan who strode forward, moving to open the gate while Annora clambered up onto Psaltria's back. Sankouri hung back, watching the second adult warily.

The front yard had a little more life to it by now, though still no where near as lively as it had been in the past. A pair of Zurui lounged in the sun, one of them watching a third as he bounced about chasing a butterfly, his own butterfly-styled wings flapping eagerly and keeping him in the air for seconds at a time. The leaping one didn't notice the newcomers approaching, which was probably fortunate for anyone who recognized him.
The Zurui not watching the bouncing one stood, shaking out his black coat before twitching a green-tipped tail. Meeting the new group halfway on the path to the House, he said simply, "Trio's people, I take it." With a jerk of his head that indicated they should follow him, he took them up the path and towards the front door, which opened at his approach.

Dalreidan knew well enough to keep his distance from the leaping Zurui. He didn't count, however, on Annora's impulsive curiosity, or her love of Zurui. She darted forward, moving to cavort with the Zurui curiously. "Hi~," she sang out, childish voice clear despite her sudden exuberance. The sound made Dal's blood freeze in his veins.
He paused, then turned slowly to where Annora was now leaping about with Iratiun. "Oh... gods," he whispered, eyes sliding shut in horrified resignation.

The sudden excited beating of his wings took him into the air for almost a full minute, and opened popped his mouth. "OMG!!!11 LOOKZ IRAN LOOKZLOOKZ ITZ A KDIZ 8DLOLOZ!!!!111ONEON--"
The litany of terror was cut off suddenly as his companion caught one waving tail in her mouth and jerked, the ranting Zurui in the air suddenly yelping and falling silent, though he kept grinning that fool grin and waved his other tails down towards Annora, tickling at her ears.
Emmett growled beneath his breath. "Someone get her, before he starts up again?"

Dal darted forward, grabbing Annora up in his arms. She didn't particularly like the move, letting out a sharp, high-pitched squeal of fury as she squirmed and fought to go back and play more with the pretty, silly-sounding Zurui.
In the back yard, Trio winced, glancing toward the house. "Annora's here."

As deep as her sleep had been, there was little that blocked out such shrill sounds, and Tera jerked, eyes popping open. One had was reaching reflexively for her ankle even as she sat up, heart pounding. It took a moment for Trio's words to sink in, but when they did, Tera relaxed. A bit.
Bobbing along after Dal and his bundle of righteous anger, Iratiun continued to make happy faces at Annora, steady beats of his wings keeping him aloft. Iranilos followed, though she kept to the ground and at a more leisurely pace.
"Whatever." Almost as if he were disgusted by the whole situation, Emmett laid his ears back and stalked into the House, leaving the others to follow or not. It was a straight shot down the hall, into the kitchen, and out the back door where Trio and Tera were, after all, and they'd all be able to see where he went easily.

Trio frowned at Tera, a bit confused at the sudden reaching. She hesitated, then stretched out a hand to cover Tera's. "Dreaming?" she asked, her voice gentler than before.
Annora seemed placated by Iratiun's faces, waving back and singsong cooing at the pretty butterfly Zurui. She liked this one - he was silly, and looked fun to play with! And since she couldn't get out of Dal's strong arms, she contented herself with making faces in return.
Psaltria, who'd tensed at Annora's shriek, now glanced at Iranilos hesitantly. "Is he... um... always like this?"

"Always," Iranilos replied, her voice almost the exact opposite of the other Zurui's, soft and melodious. "Ve do no' generally ge' th' visitors much, an'more." She smiled then, reassuringly. "Fo' th' mos' part, 'e remains silent."
Ooo, Iratiun liked that cooing, and he bobbled from side to side in time with it, once even managing a full rollover, though he almost hit the ground before recovering and flapping his way back up to Annora's height.
Realizing what she had nearly done, Tera flushed, curling her fingers into a loose fist. "Nay. That sound... Startled me, 'tis all."

"Oh... you seem so...," the pard offered, tucking herself a little closer to Iranilos in an effort to keep away from Iratiun. "So different," she finally managed softly. Nearby, Sankouri snorted, watching them a few moments before returning his attention to the man who had yet to speak.
A rollover. Annora's eyes went wide as saucers, and she clapped in obvious glee, her squeal of delight making Dalreidan wince. "C'mere puppy," she demanded when she was done clapping, holding out a hand to pet Iratiun.
Trio kept hold of Tera's hand, squeezing gently as she watched her friend. "We'll talk about it later," she promised, then glanced back toward the house. "I should probably go greet them..."

Tera nodded, settling back against the chair as she followed Trio's gaze to the House. She appeared to be a touch more relaxed now, as she willed herself not to jump out of her own skin.
Obligingly, Irat bumbled forward, bumping and rubbing against Annora's outstretched hand, in effect petting himself with it. Iran smiled bigger at that. "Ve are verra different, m'brother an' I. As varied as th' verra butterflies themselves."

Annora squee-ed, jerking out of Dal's arms enough to half-throw herself over his shoulder, both hands buried in Irat's fur as she pet him a little rougher. She was still very gentle - she'd been around animals all her life, and enough nips and growls taught anyone to be gentle.
"Your wings are very pretty," Psaltria offered, the large pard ducking her head in an effort to seem much smaller, and less a threat. "I like them."
"Would you like to come?" Trio asked Tera, rather hoping the woman would say yes. She was anxious for Tera to meet Annora...

Irat certainly didn't seem to mind any sort of roughness, though he struggled to keep from flying higher than Annora could reach; his wings were almost reaching hummingbird speeds, fluttering so excitedly at the attention he was getting. Boy! Wouldn't Iran be jealous?
"Ah thank ye kindly," the female Zurui responded, fluffing up a few tails modestly. "Thou' Ah be thinkin' tha' there are some o' our kind wi' much nicer wings." It warmed her heart to see Irat so happy; often those of the Household avoided such things with him, for fear of exciting him to the point of speaking.
Unfortunately for Trio's hopes, Tera shook her head. She had always hated intruding on reunions between family members, even if it had only been a short time since they had last seen each other. The hugs, the exclamations, all with Tera waiting to the side uncomfortably until she was introduced. Not today.
