http://weblog.signonsandiego.com/news/breaking/2008/04/parental_notification_debate_c.htmlQuote: Opponents challenge Holman to abortion debate SACRAMENTO - Jim Holman, the San Diego Reader owner who has spent millions of dollars putting parental notification measures before voters, agreed to his first interview in years, which was published in Monday's U-T. Now his opponents want him to keep talking. Vince Hall, spokesman for Planned Parenthood of San Diego and Riverside counties, which opposes parental notification, issued a challenge on Monday. "Now that Mr. Holman has emerged from his secure undisclosed location, I challenge him to a series of five debates to fully air and explain his views," Hall said. Holman, reached at his office, said proponents of parental notification are pleased to debate, but he said that the job will fall to the campaign's spokeswoman, Grace Dulaney. "She's glad to do it again," Holman said. Supporters of parental notification are planning to turn in signatures for a measure to go before voters in November. The measure, which voters have twice rejected, would require a physician to notify parents of a girl under 18 before performing an abortion. The measure provides several ways to avoid notification.

I'm pretty sure it wouldn't take five debates to point out that it's a surgical procedure and every other surgical procedure involves parental notification with minors. The best argument against parental notification is that girls might face abuse for becoming pregnant, and honestly...
1. If they are that afraid of abuse, and it's a legitimate fear, then child services should take those girls OUT of those abusive homes, instead of having them cover up problems to avoid abuse, because that is a dangerous situation and no child should be in that sort of environment.
2. This appears to have a way to circumvent parental notification if a girl is in that situation anyway.

I agree, if they are that scared of their parents then that is a red flag and something might be going on. It's best to take them out of the home and have the parents investigated.
People can't even get their ears pierced without permission and there are far less risks there then abortion.
I have a feeling that alot of the people that are against parental notification are young teen girls that are scared of telling their parents that they are pregnant or want an abortion.

And also the abortion clinics too, because they lose business if the parents say no.

I say if people won't pass a parental notification bill, submit bills to revoke the need for parental notification for piercing, tattooing, and any and all health care privacy exemptions for minors.
Because if you can get an abortion without your parents' permission, you should be able to get a freaking Tylenol from the school nurse without your parents' permission. Tattoos involve fewer health risks than abortions, and there are plenty of parents who would freak out over their child getting a tattoo. If it's so important for kids to have "bodily domain" that overrides their parents' wishes, why can't they get tattoos? Because, oh, I don't know, kids are TOO IMMATURE to make important, lifelong decisions about their bodies? Tattoos can be removed, you can't reverse an abortion.

If abortion is legal, why can't suicide also be legal? I mean seriously, the only state in the country of the United States that allows physician assisted suicide is Oregon.
Shouldn't it be more wide spread if bodily domain is such a relevant thing that a minor should be able to make a decision about it?
Aren't depressed adults just as suited than an immature and hormonally charged minor to choose what is to be done with their body?

Er, well I happen to believe that suicide should be legal. xd So I'd prefer you not connect it with abortion's legallity.

I.Am Er, well I happen to believe that suicide should be legal. xd So I'd prefer you not connect it with abortion's legallity. Well techinally suicide is NOT illegal..anywhere on the planet. But physician assistant "suicide" is..however I don't consider that suicide as it is assisted and therefore homicide. The definition of suicide is one who kills himself. If one is doing the killing for you, that is a homicide no matter how many times you spin it.
