I was thinking of taking the Squier Strat that was the first guitar I got, and buying a new neck and that David Gilmour EMG pickup setup. Anybody know where I could get a good neck or whether the Gilmour EMG's are any good?

Also, I'd like to hear tales of others modding their guitars, if they have any.

Ebay?
Or maybe a pawn shop for a cheapish scrap fender, or craigslist.

Ive done ALOT of guitar customizing, as I used to co-own a music/repair shop.

depending on which squier you haver, you might just want a new guitar since low end squiers have VERY crappy bodies.

Well wouldn't the pickups be live pickups, and wouldn't really matter what the body is made out of anyways? Not to mention that even if he ever did get rid of the Squire, he could always take them back out and put them in something better or sell them, right?

How are the bodies "VERY crappy" though? Their all still just cookie cutter guitars anyways, and they use Alder bodies for the most part, unless i'm mistaken.

Everybody says that, but very few people can give actual reasons other then the pickups. Not to mention they do make higher end squires.

I don't really think you should modify a guitar, I think you should just save up for a good guitar. I don't believe all squire's are crap, though a lot of them are. I think what you are getting in a brand name is the consistency of the product, so no matter what you get it will be good they have their name to think about. If you think about it why would fenders make squires so good, then they wouldn't sell any fenders. Its the same argument about epiphones and gibsons. Anyone would tell you they would rather have the latter unless it is an epiphone pre-gibson purchase which are classics.

I don't see why he really shouldn't do it. If he wants to experiment then let him. More power to ya, 'coarse its at your own risk if it works out or not. I've modified a bunch of my guitars. So far I haven't really done anything to make it worse.
