Crazy Pinko nonsense? or Rational use of public resources.

I know a guy from New Zealand (somewhat socialized medicine) who says he likes the free health care. There is a wait for non emergency treatment, but the quality is good.

Many say that I shouldn't have to support, with my tax dollars and product of my labor and effort, indigents whose health problems may be there own fault. On the other hand, I definitely benefit from an environment where people are more healthy on average. Healthy workers are more productive, call in sick less, and are better for the economy. And maybe we can disqualify people from care if they are in the hospital for repeat drug use and the like.

Many people think the Insurance system has gotten out of control, and even if you're not down with socialism, the current fleecing of the poor and middle class by profit driven, private insurance companies who collude with the medical industry to make sure the price of treatment remains out of reach for anyone without insurance has got to be stopped somehow.
