TWO FEMALES ____ IRIS + NASTY

I am not sure if anyone remembers me..I haven't posted in a while..been lurking though.

I have been super busy with all of my reptiles and rats. About a couple of months ago I finished turning the garage into a nice room dedicated only to the reptiles...and rats. It is so nice having them out of the bathroom, my room, and the spare bedroom.

Well in December (I started a bit late..I wanted to start I August) I started pairing up snakes in hopes of some wee babies. I wanted eggs so bad but in the back of my mind I had this small thought that it probably wouldn't happen..Well it is April (obviously) and I have eggs on the way.

My big female, Iris, had her pre-lay shed on Saturday (4/5) and in about 20-30+/- days I should have eggs. I palpated her in January? and I felt two follicles so I am thinking I will have 2 eggs...unless I just suck at palpating which could be the case.

So all in all I just wanted to share my wonderful news with everyone here. I am super excited and hope that the eggs in the end are fertile. I will keep everyone posted and will post pictures of the eggs..whenever they get here!

So please wish the unborn babies luck! Thank you everyone!

UPDATE ONE ---- 4/24

Ok well just wanted to give everyone an update on the eggs.

Iris - I went in a few minutes later and checked her tub. She is currently contorting her body (Poor thing!) and according to the "experts" females do that in order to align the eggs just prior to laying. So maybe tomorrow! I hope so I am about to start ripping dreads!

Nasty - She is currently building. So she defiantly has eggs on the way. Sadly she is a few weeks or so from ovulating so it will be a bit of a wait with her.

I appreciate everyone for reading through all this. Hope to show you pics of a pile of eggs soon!

If anyone has any questions about snakes..just ask. I heart answering questions!

Ewwww.... Palpate. That's that crocidile hunter thing where you stick your thumb up their butt isn't it.

Lol no no no....Palpating is is when you slide your fingers down her body...and if you are lucky you are able to feel....

Have you ever taken a mardi gras necklace and slid your fingers down it...? Bump, bump...bump

That is what follicles feel like.

What Steve was doing..was a way to tell male from female. With snakes you don't have to do such.

Well as of today I have another big girl that is showing signs of a possible build (Eggs developing). She will NOT let me palpate her so this will just have to be a wait and see event.

I currently have 19 snakes (2 more on the way) and All but one is clam. But as for feeling them where ever yeah they don't really mind. You just have to take them out and let them calm and then palpate away..or at least attempt to.

Now for an update on Iris (For sure has eggs and/or slugs) she has been building a "nest" I would be shocked if she dropped this early...It is only day 4.

Her due date is April 30th...but of course it could be plus or minus many days. I am just so excited the incubator is up and running already.

@Grape - I raise/breed dozens of rats and new litters always get me excited. All the colors and patterns xd

I actually just got a small colony of African soft fur rats...they are crazy mean but I am still excited for their litters.

The African rats sound freaky! lol ..

I had a dream last night that I had some new rats and put them in the same tank as my mice - I don't think that would work outside of dream world! lol ...

Congrats on the eggs almost being there!

Congrats on the eggs almost being there!

I used to buy mice and rats..Mice were fully grown and the rats were wean-small....I bought a good 40 or so at a time and they would live together until their day came sweatdrop

They did fine together but it could be the whole "I am freaked out so I am going to cower in a corner" type of thing.

what a hobby! it definitely sounds interesting to see what kind of colors and breeds you get. Snakes especially, because the only things I know about them are what I've learned from the Discovery Channel.

Awesome!!! My brother used to breed veiled chameleons for college money. There is a pet store around us that only sells reptiles so we took them there to be sold. Well congrats on the eggs!
