My band directors and my friends say that i'm a good mallet player. Besides, I tried to be in the battery but it didn't work out. The problem is that there is this girl a grade higher than me and if she stays in the band, i'm in trouble because I know she is better than me. But if I'm lucky, she might quit an I still might have a chance. Should I try out?

I think you should. What is there to lose?
Also, just because she can play well doesn't mean she can be section leader. You need leadership skills, a commanding attitude, etc. If you can show all those qualities and the other girl doesn't, you're a shoe-in.
Good luck!

Well...I am a Girl Scout and I'm the oldest in my troop. I think I can do it.
