Does it say if she was raped or if she had sex willingly? It may be possible that she had been raped by a family member and when she gave birth, she probably thought that she needed to get rid of the evidence so that she wouldn't get in trouble. 14 year olds are very much still immature and think very much like kids, and I could see that happening, especially if her parents would condemn her (or even worse, abuse her) for having a baby so young, especially if it was the product of incest.

Additionally, after giving birth, there are all sorts of other problems (including blood loss and other such things). I can hardly believe that she got through birth alone...and safely! It seems ridiculous considering the sheer danger of giving birth.

She may not have chosen abortion, but I sorely wish that the proper support networks were in place so that she could at least get help and unbiased support for her pregnancy and childbirth...so she wouldn't feel that she had to hide it or give birth alone. While I believe that she was definitely too young to have a baby and be a good parent, these sorts of things just wouldn't happen if the girls in these situations had the support, love, and education to fall back on, not to mention the ability to talk about something like sex or pregnancy without being condemned just as much as if you actually commit infanticide. Because you know that they'd be condemning her just as much if she had given birth and it HADN'T died.
