John Williams has composed for many movies. Even if the movie itself wasn't that good the music is always good. Does anyone else like John Williams?

But still good, or at least for films.
Back home I have a CD of some of his non-film music with Yo-yo Ma. I haven't listened to it in ages, but I remember it wasn't bad.

Bah. Most of his stuff is pretty similar, so he's pretty much just taking up space better, more creative composers could use. After Star Wars he could have (and should have) retired. xp And not that this is inherently a bad thing, but most of his music that I've heard reeks of Holst...

I don't think Holst created enough influential music to actually define a style of composition... other then the planets (which were fine, but not great) none of his works are considered important or good. I wouldn't use him to define anyone else's work.
I don't know John Williams though I do know star wars and quite enjoyed the music there.

When most of a person's work sounds rather reminiscent of The Planets I'd say it's perfectly fine to use Holst to define their work.

Seconded. Find me a more fun short piece than "Fantasia on the Dargason", I tell you.
As far as Williams goes, he is extremely formulaic, but he makes that formula work!
