Holy Crap, as soon as I saw this I sat up in my seat and my eyes went wide. I said HOLY s**t! and had to watch it a couple times to get it through my head, but by the fourth time I almost couldn't cause it looked so bad.

If that were the old car, the 00 would be looking for a new driver.

I saw the crash myself on TV. Even though the car did flip over like the older version, it was still the way it was designed as well as the safer barrier that kept it from being worst that it was. The designers and engineers of the car and barrier deserve the credit. It would have been tragic if those things were not in use.

i don't think he would have died in the old car, newmans flip in 03 was worse than that but he did hit the wall ridiculously hard.I always wondered how drivers don't ever die from those accidents but they always die from what you would call "routine accidents" that don't look that bad.

Did you see what the safer barrier looked like after that, it was completely destroyed.

The car rolling over isn't producing the sudden, blunt force impacts that the crash that claimed Earnhardt did and McDowell hitting the wall head on did.

Generally, unless the cockpit is exposed somehow, a rollover is not the worst crash to experience. Sure, it's probably the worst based upon looks and upsetting the driver, but they rarely, if ever produce the hard impact that a head on crash does.

Just the way that the head restraints are these days, are so much better than they were when Dale Sr. crashed.
