neutral I'm wearing this avatar because I am in mourning. My uncle Harv Died on Monday. He was 80 years old. He was a farmer all his life. He served in WWII. He was an excellent person. He always made it a point to say hello to me and all the other kids whenever he saw us, even though our family is huge and he is only my Uncle by the fact of being my grandmother's brother. He had an awesome sense of humor, which was bolstered by the Huntsucker Families thirst for intelligence. Uncle Harv will be missed, but now he gets so be with his other Six brothers, Mother (great grandma Minnie), father (Great grandpa Lewis), and his wife Aunt Mary Jo.

Ah, then he's your Great-Uncle. Cool. I only knew one of my Great-Aunts and that was when I was little. I mostly remember her pomeranian, Timmer. I didn't see her much.

I have a huge and incredibly long lived family, on both sides. If any of them lived to be five they all lived to be exceptionaly old, with the obvious exception of those who died in tragic accidents. So I've met quite a few of my great aunts and uncles. One of which (Uncle David) was kindly enough to pay for quite a bit of my college education. I was even lucky enough to meet three of my Great Grandmothers (one of them died it a horrible car/semi truck accident, but she would have been old too because her mother died past 100 year of age). One of my Great Aunts (Aunt Leanna) isn't even old enough to have grandchildren herself though. Having so many older people that I am related to has taught me a few things. 1. Marry someone you like. 2. raise your childeren to be trustworthy and respectful 3. I am doomed to be at least 98, even if I smoke and eat myself to death. gonk DOOOOMED!

So don't smoke & eat yourself to death so you can enjoy as much of that lifespan as possible. smile

I have a friend out in the NC mountains whose dad lived to be almost 99. For most of that time he was alert & able to get around on his own. He was even still driving until he was about 97 or so! gonk He owned the theaters out around Murphy, NC & had been honored by the theater owners association as being the oldest living theater owner. He got into all kinds of stuff in his lifetime--car racing in the 20's, speedboat racing in Florida in the '50's...he was a nice & cool guy! mrgreen

What, doomed not to live long because you don't do all those bad things like they did, or doomed to live long hacking and sick because you do?

oh.. neither.. just doomed to live to be 100 is all. Its not something I look forward to. I think I could handle it up until I was 80.. but after that I know I'll just be grumpy and old, no matter what my health. I'll probably be even crazier and more absent minded then I am now too. I fully anticipate being the lady that ushers children off her lawn and that all the people in my neighborhood will silently wonder if I'm an evil witch or possibly eat puppies for fun.

If you don't want to be an old grouch, then don't be a young one to start the ball rolling. smile Nobody's going to push a button and make you an old curmudgeon suddenly who acts and thinks completely differently. That's how kids look at adults!
Whoever you are is who you'll be. When I get old, I'll still be shy and artistic and somewhat depressive and I'll still love art and Doctor Who and the mountains and cats. And with any luck, I'll still be on Gaia with my virtual helmet, 'cause I'm ornery and refuse to "act my age" too. mrgreen
