Capcom 20XX - Mega ManA Pandangel RP Project WARNING!! Severe Reading Ahead! Who This RP Is For::Players who are as big of a fan of Mega Man as I am (or at least as reasonably close as one can be while still maintaining a semblance of sanity.) Players who formulate theories on how events might have gone with a different character involved, and follow that train of thought through to the end. Open minded literate-adv. literate RPers willing to help other RPers improve and contribute meaningfully to the community. Open minded semi-lit RPers who are interested in improving while having fun playing a source they enjoy. Intense thought-provocing Mary-Sue Free fan-fic writers who are looking for an outlet, or inspiration for their next story or character. Creative and thoughtful players who have interesting ideas that they are willing to share. Players who have played (or are playing) in Pandangel Projects before this one, and know the kind of quality RP that we provide. Players who are fans of a character, not what the character has done. The type of player who looks at an inter-action and says "I understand that" not just "oh, that was cool!" Who This RP Is NOT For::Elitist RPers who would rather demand a novel out of other players rather than help them grow and find a comprimise. Mary-Sue players, meaning: Self-insertions, Characters that can't function if they aren't liked by another character, Characters that make canon characters obsolete or overshadowed, etc Players who are unwilling to help other players, or contribute to the community of the RP. Especially if those players are then going to gripe about the RP not going in a way they'd like. Obsessive and argumentative fans... if you think a character belongs to you, and it will upset you to see them played by or playing with someone else... you may want to pass this RP up rather than argue with our crew about your rights over a character. People who are unreasonably opposed to the Source Content, or Pandangel Projects. Our Goals As An RP::To create a deep and expanded plotline for a really amazing source that is often left somewhat untouched in most RP communities. To provide this deep and expanded plotline while keeping the fun aspect of the source material, and not demand that any player be asked to take things too seriously. To use thought and discussion and theories to build upon the established universe without being limited to it. Playing characters from the inside, rather than the outside... asking why and/or how a character does something, instead of just limiting ourselves to what we've seen them do. To allow people to have fun playing as their favorite Robot Masters... To make room for the tuna.... duh... To develop an environment that will be both a fun RP as well as a place to grow as an RPer. This should really be the goal of any RP. We really want the best players we can have, who are willing to help other players become as good as them. And, as always... to grow as a Kibalicious (should I say Megalicious? it doesn't have as much meaning behind it as Kibalicious *laughs*) environment that shares many fond memories and delicious cake. Alright, so if those make this sound like an RP you'd like to be a part of, hopefully you're still interested enough to read through the rest of this. This discussion/recruitment thread is for just that... discussing and recruiting before (and after) we begin RP. We want input and theories that can be developped into plots for the RP unless disproven by canon before we begin. However once we begin, whatever theories we began with we will keep playing based on regardless of what becomes revealed through canon. As with all Pandangel Projects, we run in Story-Arcs... this RP will be the first Story Arc, and the events that unfold will help develop the second Story Arc. Meaning (potentially) you, our players, are just as responsible for helping forge plotlines and events as our hosts are. Unlike some other RP Hosts... you know who you are... we don't make very many demands on the way events unfold. Finally... yes, I copy and pasted and editted most (ie all) of this information from my Naruto RP - Shippuden Unleashed. The same information applies for all Pandangel Projects, and I'm really a**l about keeping a uniform look. *laughs* Sailor Moon End of Destiny, aside... wink

Story::Doctor Thomas Right became famous for his development of the "Solid Light System" Technology. The system used solid holograms to perform the functions of various technology with a single device. Now, rather than requiring dozens or hundreds of tools, science could perform a near limitless number of functions with a single unit. The world changing technology became so popular that Thomas was nicknamed "Doctor Light" internationally.
He and his assistant, Doctor Albert Wily go on to apply this technology to the newest field of science. Artificial Intelligenct applied to Robotics. Tensions begin to develop after their first creation. Eager to apply the technology to military contracts, Wily pushes them to create a form of Super Soldier, while Right wants only to make robots for peaceful purposes, fearing that a robot designed to destroy would not know how to stop and would be a danger to mankind as well as other robots.
Even though the two work on the DRN00 together, neither of them are proven right or wrong in it's design. When activated, the autonomous unit leaves home and is not seen by either of it's "fathers" for years. Downhearted by the turn of events, Right continues to manufacture robots that he believes can only exist for peaceful and beneficial purposes.
When Wily leaves, he kidnaps 8 of Right's creations to prove that any robot can become evil. He reprograms them and turns them loose on mankind in an attempt to frame Doctor Right and blackmail the world into allowing him to design fighting robots capable of destroying the threat. Afraid that the world may allow him to unleash such horrible forces, Doctor Right decides to apply the previous fighting design of the DL00, along with a few enhancements, to his DRN01. A housecleaning and maintanence robot that Doctor Right named "Rock".
Even then, Right's greatest concern was that a robot created for combat would not be able to stop itself, and could never lead a peaceful life. Rock, under his guise as Mega Man, greatly astonishes the doctor with the growth of his AI programming. When the robot faces his "brothers", he defeats each of them without destroying them and returns them to Doctor Right so that he can restore their original programming. The blue warrior then continues to expose Doctor Wily's scheme...
From then on, Wily's plots became more grand. No longer attempting to just blackmail, but ultimately conquer the world. Each of his many attempts and plots is foiled by Rock, under the guise of Mega Man.
Wily would attempt to copy Mega Man's design many times over the years, but with only one truly successful attempt, a robot named Bass. Bass, however, would be so well copied that he would grow as much a hate of his creator as he had of the original who had inspired his design. Claiming that he was the greatest robot design of all time, he would state that it was his right, not Wily's, to rule the world. But, for all his talk and grandstanding the dark twin of Mega Man would help the blue bomber more often then stand against him...
Now, several years, and many attempts later, Doctor Wily is believed dead. Legions of his robot masters, however, remain free. Like Mega Man's, their AI has grown beyond the original programming... but for the better, or worse? Many of his robots gather in one of Wily's Skull Fortresses, in strange, almost religious observance and to meet with Four Robots they call "The Kings"...
The leader of these Four Robot Kings is the last, and perhaps most dangerous robot ever created by Wily. His legacy goes on... Rules:: 1. The standard Pandangel RP rule that we've come to know as the "don't be a douche-hat" rule. That's your basic, don't godmode, don't metagame, don't violate TOS, don't harass other players... you know. A lot of other RPs make all of these into seperate rules, but we figured it all came down to "not being a douche-hat".
2. To apply a character, you will fill out the application beow... when applying and when playing... please keep in mind what your character is capable of. This is shorter than the character application rule in other RPs, because at this time I am not accepting non-canon characters... I will explain why in the proper post. Also, this is a Mega Man Classic based RP... at this time I am not including the reploids from the X franchise. Probably later, though, I will.
3. If you fail to post for more than a week in a given scene, you will be notified, and given the urgency of the scene you may be skipped. After two weeks, if you still have not posted, you will be given a final warning. Beyond three weeks without posting, your character will be either removed from the RP or put into our Available Premade selection for another player to apply, should they choose to. Of course none of this will be done without your knowledge, unless you just vanish from the face of the Earth. Also, to avoid this, if you're going to be gone for an extended amount of time, let us know... if we can move your character out of the current scene then this rule doesn't apply to you.
4. You should probably highlight areas of the rules that seem unusually blank. That's what Mega Man would do, I'll bet...
5. Your characters are robots... keep in mind that you don't have to survive every fight any more than you have to win. The very fact that your characters can be brought back from monumental, or otherwise should-be fatal damage should only increase the level of awesomeness we get in our fight scenes. That should not... repeat not... mean we have to keep dealing with called shots or cheap dodges or any of that nonsense.
6. Do Not Talk About Fight Club! But the first time you apply a character, you should title your PM the name of that movie's star. The Fights go on as long as they have to!
7. The limit of Characters per player, at this time, is 7. (*points* Note the convenient numbering) Depending on how things go, that number may raise, but probably won't lower any time soon. Please note how much activity a character might need to have before applying them. Obviously roles like Mega Man, Zero, Bass, etc will be required more often then Metal Man or Centaur Man... I mean... did you even remember Centaur Man? Of course, even an outside role like Turbo Man or Bright Man can become central by the actions of the player.
8. Having said that, one of our goals is to encourage players to play a character from the inside, not the out. This is going to present a special challenge in the case of this RP, because for most characters the personality and interests will be largely up to the player. But, I'm going to look at you a little odd if something seems to wildly contradict a previous action that character undertook.
9. Unfortunately no one can be told exactly what the Matrix is. You should talk to us about the RP, though. You will not receive a character if you haven't introduced yourself and spoken to us on the OOC board first. Are you the one?
10. Okay, this isn't so much a rule, but a chance to answer a question I'm sure I'll have to repeat the answer to more than once. Why am I not allowing Created Characters at this time? Answer. Because, as with the coming (and previous) Transformers RP, there are so many characters who had not been given a fully established personality, that almost any of the characters can be auditioned with a created personality to fit what the player had wanted to play...
Also, except for Mega Man, Proto Man, Roll, Bass, Zero, Enker, Punk and Ballade... the genders of the characters can be switched (though their robot name will still be _____ Man, for the sake of RP.
This rule, also, might (read probably will) change in the future... and also in the future I may start including elements and more characters from the X series. Which leads to the other answer I want to cover. Why am I including Zero but not including other aspects of X? Zero was created by Wily and intended to be used against the original Mega Man... in this AU he gets to.
There, that does it with the boring rules portion, hopefully you at least scanned over it... on to more important information!

Character Application::Canon Character: Anybody unfamiliar with Pandangel RPs... this is our basic "Who-Why-What-How" application. Who is it that you want to play? Why do you want to play them specifically? What do you know about the character? How will you intend on playing them? Character Name: Why Them: Background: RP Challenge:
Description:Character Name: (If you don't know this... I'm afraid we can't approve the application.)
Why Them: (Tell us what about this character makes you want to play them with us? Why are you driven to this specific character? Why should we choose you to play them over other applications for the character?)
Background: (Tell us everything you know about the character. I don't want to see a copy of the Wikipedia article, either, I want your words telling me everything you know about them. Tell me everything you think is relevant to their character. Hopefully this shouldn't take more than 2 or 3 paragraphs... don't feel pressured to write me a novel about them. The challenge for this part is that for most characters, the player will have a lot of freedom to play around with the background of the character, but it should still keep a certain feel relevant to the source. If it helps, Mega Man and Bass on the GBA contains short bios of every Mega Man character... you could probably look those up to build from, but except for a few characters, I won't hold you to those bios.)
RP Challenge: (Somehow I described this poorly in the Naruto RP... so lemme try again. The first aspect is anything power or skill wise you wish to add to the character that is not part of the established canon. This may be refused or debated before allowing to be implimented as a part of the character, but for the most part I'm fairly open and lenient.
Secondly, and most importantly... you must respond to at least 2 of the RP challenge posts that will be listed in Post 6. This is because that we feel a response helps us guage better how you play than a solo-post or a sample of something you've posted previously. So if you're applying a character, you'll need to read this and post 6.) Example Character Name: Proto Man (Blues) + Beat Why Them: Mega Man 3 was probably my favorite NES game of all time, and it introduced both my favorite Mega Man boss and my favorite Mega Man character. That character was Blues. I've always liked the mysterious hero figures... from Racer X, to the Green Ranger, to Blues. I think there's a depth to the character that can be brought out, and I'm selfish enough not to trust any other player to do it satisfactory for me. xd Background: Contrary to popular belief, Blues is not and has never been a villian. In fact, the reason he left Doctor Light in the first place was because he didn't want to be used exclusively for violence. Blues is sort of the rebelious member of the family, who didn't want to grow up to be just like dad, but in the end is probably the most like him. With the exception that Blues' interests lie mostly in art and music, as opposed to science. Doctor Light revealed once that Proto Man's power system is incomplete and had flaws which could potentially shorten the amount of time he had to function. Every time Blues takes up arms to help Mega Man, he is potentially cutting down his life span, and every over taxation of his power core could result in the fusion reactor that powers him rupturing. But, Blues still never hesitates to assist his brother when he really feels needs it, even if it doesn't come across that way sometimes with his tough-love approach towards his little brother. When offerred to have this problem repaired, Blues said he didn't trust Doctor Light enough to let him tinker around with his functions. However, it's also arguable that Blues is also very spiritual for a robot, and has hesitations about simply replacing a component because it isn't working properly. Similar to a depressed person hesitating to take medication because it could effect how they feel or act. Blues doesn't enjoy fighting but he does so to take as much of the burden off of his family as possible. He often operates outside of the knowledge of Mega Man, taking care of problems or gathering as much information about a threat as he can before it would become something Mega Man had to deal with. This leaves him with less time to approach hobbies that he would prefer to be persuing. Because he was the first Robot with an Evolving AI, Blues was at first very frightened that he was malfunctioning by not agreeing unquestioningly to his own programming. He spent much of his youth feeling like he was a monster. As more robots have become functional, however, and he has seen them develop, he has become somewhat of the "sagelike older brother" figure. He's not quite the adult, but more experienced than most other robots... and prone to dispensing this wisdom in the manner of a Blues Musician. Blues is the only member of his family that does not live at home, and currently resides in a Studio Apartment near the University he attends in his civilian life. RP Challenge:Even though there is no cannon evidence to confirm it, it has always seemed fitting to me that Beat be Blues' pet. Mega Man already has Rush, Tango is more fitting for Roll. It leaves both Beat and Blues somewhat left unmatched... and the two seem to have matching personalities to a degree. ~ After your commentary about things you would like to add... this is where you would put your responses to the RP Challenge posts you will find in Post 6 of this thread.

Character Creation Information::
This post is empty, but reserved, for now. This is where the information will be in the event that we add Character Creation. 3nodding
At this time, due to the sheer number of Canon Characters as well as the fact that those characters personalities are largely up to interpretation, I'm not allowing Created Characters.
Why? Because almost all the canon characters are technically created characters...

RP Challenge::To answer the questions about what the RP Challenge is for application, here you go. When you're applying for a character, most RPs ask for a sample of your RP ability, but we've found in the past that asking for a simple solo-post isn't always a fair way to judge one's ability during a roleplay. Often a person can post a wonderful solo-entry and then be completely unable to post fair and accurate responses to other players. Likewise, often some of the best players get utterly brainfrozen when trying to think of something to post as a solo. So we came up with this method instead. The very first time you apply for a character, created or canon, you'll pick at least 2 of the following samples to post a reply to. After that you'll only have to select one per character, and if we get a feel that you're reliable and consistant you might be able to bypass this step entirely when applying for a character. After all, if the point is to judge your ability to play and you've already been playing with us for like 30 pages, it's a pretty moot step, right? It doesn't matter which 2 you respond to your first time, if you find you typically RP better in romantic situations, feel free to respond to both of those and one action or social. If you feel you're abilities are well rounded and you want to show us every facet of your ability, take a crack at one of each. If you want to just show us that you're an Olympian God of RP, feel free to give us a response to all of them. Whatever combination you feel most comfortable with. Responses should be at least 1-2 paragraphs long, but you don't have to feel pressured to go for super-lengths like 5 or 6 paragraphs. Challege 1: Action Metal feet clanged against the hard concrete as they dodged with a backward dash. Obviously if he kept this up, he was going to end up in a scrap heap before the end of the day. He needed to take a moment, and his enemy didn't seem to want to let him have one. Heh... well, he could always ask, he supposed. The holographic shielding around his exterior absorbed the second shot, but sent a surge of pain from his shoulder through the rest of his body. If there was ever something he wonderred about, it had to be the decision to program robots to feel pain. With that shot, his holographic shielding was gone, the next blast would cause damage to his actual body. If it were powerful enough, the next thing he saw would probably be the repair table. He'd really prefer not to go through that... he set his weapon program for Time Stop. But, it was going to take a second to power up... and he took off in a dash to hopefully buy himself that very second... A good judge of a player is how they respond in a fight that they are clearly winning. Obviously this is going to also be different character to character, not just player to player. I don't have a lot of commentary on this, I guess... I don't want to just repeat everything I said in the Naruto layout.Challege 2: Social School. Historically, he might have been the first Robot to actually hate it. If a signifigant number of previous robots had been given the opportunity before him, they might have felt the same way, though, he was sure. Probably the most akward part was the assumption that everybody seemed to have that because he was a robot, he was naturally good at any science or math problem that was presented to him. He'd given up trying to explain to anybody that his Positronic Brain didn't work like that. Sure, he might learn things faster, and retain things better than the average human mind, but he still had to actually learn them. Doctor Light had even gone so far as to code his brain's functions in such a way that he couldn't download non-vital information into himself. If they were to grow, they had to grow naturally, like people. Supposedly, it was supposed to make them more empathetic to their human counterparts, keep them from automatically assuming superiority... at least that's what Doctor Light said. Really, though... taking into account the length of the most boring Math Lectures... it was a wonder humanity hadn't wiped itself out from sheer frustration centuries ago...
After his class ended it left him with the other most akward moment. Eating between classes. Because of the fusion generator in his body, he could technically produce energy very efficiently through any supply of material. So, try explaining to the student body on campus that you just happened to prefer the taste of Cheese Pizza. See how quickly you start to ignore the response, of Robots can Taste? Bringing the box with his customary wednesday pizza to a table in the quad he smiled at the person sitting there already, "All the other tables are full... is it okay if I sit here?" he asked seriously, but diplomaticly. Social interaction is always the core of any RP. Hopefully everybody knows what a Fishing Post is. That's a post a player puts up to try and illicit interaction with other characters. This post could be either a follow up (or bite) to a fishing post, or a fishing post itself, in hopes that another player will assume the role of the person sitting at the table before the player got there. Also just as a note in this RP all characters will have a "normal" and "robot" or "battle" mode. Meaning, like Mega Man and Roll, they can look human most of the time.Challege 3: Romance The silence spoke volumes. Over them the sky was clear and the stars were shimmering brightly. Of course they could only see them at all because of their perch from atop such a high building themselves. Below them, the city mirrored the sky, a sea of twinkles and glows. There was a slight summer breeze that danced around them for a brief moment. Under the full moon they could see the ocean. Black as ink in the night, stretching out to infinity. The dark orange-crimson shadow of the Golden Gate Bridge standing majestically over the bay. It was a good moment to be alone, and they were. It was a good moment for him to turn and smile towards his companion... and he did. Again, I'm admitting my weakest area is in romance scenes. Heh. Also, yes, I'm encouraging romance in my RP that features sentient robots. Romance is just as essential as action and social situations for a good RP to become strong. If it works for Transformers, it works for Mega Man. Remember, I said we can change the genders of the robots, or you can play shonen or shojo ai relationships with the robots, too... have fun with it. *nod* Besides... are you denying that BassXRoll could be a cute couple?Challege 4: Action So, five against one, had their enemy really thought this was going to turn out well for him? Granted, their fight had really only just begun, but the green shelled robot seemed pretty confident that he knew how this was going to turn out. They were the Search and Destroy Team, after all. They had searched already. That had lead them to their target. Well, that meant there was only one thing left that they did, right?
Snake Man moved the quickest of them, the first to slide in, his long snake-like tail swimming through the air from the back of his helmet, hypnotically disguising his movements. His fist came in at their target in fast slashing movements, the She Quan style of Kung Fu... the Snake Fist. Obviously. Behind him, the soldier looking robot growled, "Dammit, I didn't say attack yet!" Search Man shouted, "Sword Man, get in there! Gyro Man seal the exits!"
Suddenly where there had been one enemy, their target now had 3 to face. Swordman moved in a blur, his arm forming into a large broadsword and swinging down at the target engulfed in flames. Gyro Man leapt into the air and transformed into his helicopter form and kept above them, his light guns aimed at the target threateningly, as if daring him to try and escape them without a fight. The most unnerving of all, however, had to be the red haired quiet youth that had yet to speak or move beyond turning up the volume of his music on his iPod. If there was one thing Crash Man was known for... it wasn't sitting patiently in the corner, after all... Sometimes a situation looks hopeless. Sometimes it is hopeless. The challenge is up to the player to decide if there's something his or her character can do to get out of the situation, or if they're just going to have to take the loss for the fight. Keep in mind, again, that most of the characters are robots. Meaning severe damage is only temporary, and even if your character is "killed" it doesn't necessarily eliminate them from the RP.Challege 5: Social All over the streets, screens were surging to life and the music of a joyous announcement filled the city through the public sound system. The largest screen in town, an enormous screen like the one famous in Time Square, most notably boomed to life for the first time of the day. Scenes of amazing action and intense robot fighting surged through the screens all around town. Images of last year's International Robot Fighting Competition. The announcement came in the form of a challenge to all fighting robots in the city formerly known as San Francisco... were they tough enough to last in a competition against the best of the best? The energetic robot had cat-like ears when she came over the screen to formally announce the tournament. Her cute voice called out from the screen for a robot brave, and strong, and daring, and... almost added as an afterthought... handsome enough to claim this year's prize. 1,000,000 Zenny and 100 cans of E to keep your fusion core running optimally for years. She winked at the end of her announcement, and the screen went blank once more, the city's sound system returning to the soft almost unnoticable classical music that ran through the shopping and entertainment districts. But, who could hear the city's normal music with all the clammor coming from every robot with even the least bit of combat programming...? This is a setting post. No actual character is posted to react to, but the player now has a situation from which to build a scene upon. Usually things like this are included by good crew to help give players an idea of what they could be doing when the RP is seeming to run towards a wall. It's something I like to do just to announce any actual plotlines that might be coming up when I have plans for them. From a post like this, it's up to the player how they want to react. They can use the information as bait with a fishing post, or they can simply make a comentary about it that they don't really intend on following up with. *shrugs* Up to the player, really...Challege 6: Romance "It... it just doesn't add up!" she whimperred. If she could actually form tears, she probably would be at this moment, "I... I don't..." she was the stereo-type that robots had been plagued with. Everything needed to line up for her. The math always had to be perfect. Paradox was something that probably caused her actual pain if she tried to work it over. No matter how much people wanted it to be, though, it wasn't just a robot trait... certainly it was probably one of the more human qualities about her, "Why would you do this?" her voice was weak and somewhat metalic now, the processor failing slightly as her programming was bombarded with emotional algorithms. Her eyes looked up, and for a second, a breif look of pleading came over her face. This all had to be a mistake right? Or a joke? None of it was real... there was just something wrong with her programming that had caused her to react this way. Please, her eyes pleaded, please tell me that this is anything but reality... Again, sorry, I suck at romance posts. Umm... it's a good measure of a player to see how they react to romance that isn't going exactly peachy keen. Romance and action posts have a lot in common. They both feed off of and help develop social situations. They're both some form of competition. Romance is just emotional and psychological instead of physical and mental.
