"I have in my hands the means, and in my heart, the will."

Haha, you'll get many laughs.

And not because of their "marvelous intellectual discussions", either. rofl .

It's interesting to think about other parent characters in FF. Other than Lulu, are there any other Playable women characters who have children? I know for men there's Shadow with Relm. Drawing a blank on FFIV. Gaulf in FFV has his granddaughter Krile. Are Lulu and Tifa the only actual mom's though? I know I'll feel stupid once someone points out someone obvious, but right now I'm not in the mood to think about every character. XP

Terra/ Tina, once you get to WoR. Elhaim as Miang, Shion of a sort, KOS-MOS in that she's the vessel for the universal female nature. Penelo is a mother figure for her and Vaan's gang of yokels in RW.
Also, Edea.

I don't mean to sidetrack the conversation of Tifa as a MILF XD... but I thought I might bring a point to this debate of some Japanese word that could be translated into sweetheart/lover...
If I read correctly and the debate is that Numora hinted to Lockhart and Strife being together during AC because he used that word, I must take the side that it is false. As much as I adore Lockhart and support evidence of Cloud/Tifa cannon pairing, this is simply not one of those pieces.
My counter will come from the AC novel - which I feel can hold weight against said reported documents.

"Life as a "family" changed a lot after Cloud started his delivery service - and not in a very good way. Cloud was hardly ever home, except in the morning and late at night."

"The night after closing, Cloud was drinking for a change. His glass was empty. After thinking it over, Tifa topped it off.
'Mind if I join you?' She had things to say.
'I wanna drink alone.'
Cloud's response robbed Tifa of her better sense, and the words abruptly came out: 'Then drink in your room.' "

The whole point of bringing this about however is that if the debate is using that word as creator proof that Tifa/Cloud win, then why isn't it supported in the movie or novel? True, you could argue it is a difference of view, but if that word has such a root in "lover/sweetheart" then you'd think we'd see clear signs of a relationship other then a second frame of a ring.
At most the novel goes into:

"This time...I think I'll be okay."
"Cloud was silent for a long time before he spoke again. "Because I have you."
"You've always had me."
"I mean from tomorrow on." Cloud answered with a smile. "

But the gloomy emo scenes take over then fluff. With the novel as the time between seven and AC - then there is no time for Miss Lockhart and Mr. Strife to kick off their fling.
I think I end on the point that although it was said - I think it was said with far little importance then what the debates have been given it. There are better pieces to work Cloud and Tifa as cannon. And I suggest always going into a debate you know the rebuttal to.
The one thing Aeris can't touch on Tifa -the promise. Aeris doesn't have one, but she does with Zack, but you know this. The trademark of FF cannon pairings.

I can see your point. I honestly don't think much of the koibito argument personally. In Reunion Files, they listed Tifa's attributes, that she's something of a sweetheart, a close ally in battle, etc... One could debate that it's just an aspect of her personality, not necessarily meaning that she and Cloud are sweethearts but that she fits the role.

That can only be translated as sweetheart/ lover/ a select few other words that all implicity include a mutual romantic relationship.

There is when you realize that the gloom only starts to happen nearer to the end of the two year gap, and the scene of Cloud's smile occurs mere days before AC. They had a grace period of happiness before that very happiness led to Cloud's self doubt and paranoia over the safety of his loved ones. Also, which translation is that? It looks different from the one I am familiar with.

I'll agree that far more importance has been given to it in the debate than it deserves, but that goes for the entire love triangle debate. And that's part of why it's important. It shows that the creative team thinks of Tifa in terms of being in a relationship, same as Nojima's quote about Cloud and Tifa belonging together and the Highwind sequence being mature and risque.

Canon. One n means 'official body of work', two means 'instrument of death.'

And twin, they did not say she's "something" of a sweetheart. In the english translation, they said she IS a sweetheart, and the japanese text accompanying uses a Kanji with a very specific meaning. Moreover, the japanese text uses a kanji that more literally translates to 'roles in the world' (though that is still synonymous with certain definitions of character). You have to interpret the english translation in light of the original text, as the translation is beholden unto it. The Japanese is pretty damn specific, and the English has wiggle room. We use the Japanese to remove the wiggle from the English.

Oh good, thanks for the clarification Ryu.

@Clan: Speaking of translations....Clan Dragoon, the translation of CoT that you have posted is the same kind that Cleris like to use for some reason. The one I've seen made a lot more sense than the one you have. As Ryu said, English has too many connotative meanings for a single word while Japanese is actually very specific.
