so my computer has never liked getting wireless internet, but i used to be able to cajole it by restarting, renewing the ip address, or refreshing the wireless thing.
but lately it won't get wireless at all, anywhere. i've tried four very different networks, and none of them worked.
what happens is i connect, and a few seconds later this little bubble pops up saying that wireless is connected and it tells me my signal strength, which is usually "very good". but when i try to do anything on the internet, it's all "lol no you're not connected."
is there some kind of fix for this or do i have to take it in?
i want wirelessssss. D:

I dunno if this helps at all, but I have had that same sort of problem at my Uni. Mostly it happens when there is a network that I connect to, but that network doesn't have access to the internet. That's the simple explanation, which ignores the fact that most of the time the network does have internet access, but it won't let my computer use it.
The only thing I can think of is that either the wireless you are trying to connect to isn't set up to allow your computer access to the internet, or your computer itself isn't set up to use the internet via the wireless connection. From the sound of your "cajoling", it seems to me that your compy is the culprit, and renewing the IP address is a good idea, but if that doesn't work anymore, I have no idea of how to help you... Sorry redface

Haet.
I swear, wireless networks are at odds with a number of things, including atmospheric interference, temperature, humidity, antenna placement, the alignment of the planets... etc.
Okay, well, if you're getting connected, but not online...
Check control panel -> network connections and see if you really are connected. Also, check to make sure that you're not given any weird errors (eg. anything that makes your status "not connected fully" like "duplicate names on the network")
If you're ok there, see if you can't get to your router's settings (from the compy in trouble, so it'll establish whether you actually are on the network). For most routers, this is 192.168.2.1, so enter that in the url bar in your favorite browser (ie. firefox, IE, opera) and see if you get your router's page. If you do, then you ARE on the network, and you're probably got either an internet connection problem (from the router to cable/dsl modem to the isp) or a firewall problem (either on your compy, your router, or hardware firewall if you have one).
If you don't, then you have a network issue... because it's wireless, it's probably something to do with the wireless, but it could be the compy... there's plenty of network settings that can be goofed an all, and taking it in if that's the case might be a good idea (or have your neighborhood geek look at it... shouldn't be hard, besides, us geeks are suckers. ^_^)
And one more thing, if you have a spare ethernet cable (looks like a phone cord, but the end has two more wires), see if you can't hardwire your compy into the router and see if that makes a difference... if it doesn't (and other compies on the network connect just fine) then you have something wrong with the network settings on your compy, if it does work, then there's something wrong with the wireless part (could still be wireless network settings though)
Wish I could tell you a quick fix, but wireless networks are a ******** PAIN... >_>( )
Good luck! <3
