Faile grinned wryly, tilting her head as she looked down at Piper. "Point taken. Looking to be a loner then, are you?" The question was tossed out casually, and outwardly the black alpha looked as relaxed as she could be. Inwardly, she was keenly watching the adolescent's reaction. "You look a bit social for that, but with an attitude as well...I don't think you'd settle for being one of the crowd."

The youth watched Faile, watched her grin like the cat that ate the canary and anger bubbled to the surface again at her casual remark. She swallowed it down, swallowing her pride, then threw her head up in a laugh.
"Hardly. Loners are the weak, the wandering who fit nowhere. I'm not weak and I'll fit, even if I have to force myself through."
But truthfully, that was a secret fear. Being alone. Wolves were social creatures and being raised in such a large litter...she needed the contact. Perhaps that's why she was so willing to throw herself into danger, challenging another pack's alpha... Or maybe she was just a b***h. Either way.
"No. Right now I'm just looking for some fun." She offered the black wolfess a grin that showed all her teeth, a grin that was a mix of seduction and sadism. "And when I find that and once I'm done with that? That's when I'll return to Gomorrah and take down Lilith. Who knows. I might even throw a batch of whelps myself someday."

Rolling her shoulders in a relaxed, confident manner, Faile quirked a brow. "Well, make sure you keep training before you challenge this...Lillith. A defeated challenger doesn't often get a second chance to make the attempt. But I'm sure you knew that...after all, it's a good idea to undergo that training in a place where your opponent won't be watching." Rising to her feet, the dark alpha inclined her head slightly. "Therefore, I will bid you luck and let you be on your way, Piper. Control that temper of yours, and I think you'll do well."

Piper smirked. Defeated challenger -- as if she planned on being defeated. And even if she was, she was in her prime, nimble and fleetfooted, where the old alphess was graying and achy.
She didn't want to admit it, but Faile made good, solid points. Someone to respect, definitely. Watching the fae rise, she nodded once, eyes glittering, and rose as well, but this time aimed in a different direction.
Luck? Girls like herself didn't need luck. It was brains and brawn that got them through to the top and she was more than willing to stake her claim now. "Well thanks, Faile. We'll meet again, I'm sure... Don't worry; I'll keep my pack away from your territory. You shouldn't have any problems."
Uncertain, she bowed her nose, just slightly, but enough for the older wolf to see the respect there, and then turned away.
Fate had brought them together and it also drove them apart. It allowed the Gomorrah member to see such differences in leaders and, perhaps, it influenced her a little bit. Either way, the back view of the lanky young adult, tail swaying high, would be the last that Faile of Broken Shore would see of Piper as a pup.
Yes... Fate would take her to true freedom.
