That is very cool. I was going to do some thing like that with neck ties to make a vest but, a messenger bag would be oh so much more useful everyday. Thanks for the inspiration.

may i ask how you made it thick enough to retain its shape?
i made a messanger bag but it was soo flimsy i had to stuff the back end with cardboard, making it completely unwashable.

The inside is lined with denim, making it very sturdy.
