It had been a long time since Khalindra had come to the shop. Actually, the last time she'd been there she'd gone and met Adonis, and in turn had managed to make a friend after some philosophical discussion that no six year old should really be able to take part in. She hadn't seen the shiny thing since, unfortunately, but that was okay. She was sure she'd see him again. A smile touched at the newly grown Tale's lips and she reached out to pat the ever trailing Altair.

Is there a reason we're going to a book store, Miss Khalindra?

"Is there a reason you suddenly got all formal?" came Khali's response, arching a brow.

I could be a jackass if you really want me to.

"No, it's fine," the tale answered quickly, shaking her head, "Just took my by surprise." Her hand was pulled away from the silky blackness of her companion's head and she reached instead for the door, turning the handle and gliding in with her skirts whipping around her legs.

You going to answer my question, Blondie?

"All right, there's the Altair I know and love. I came here, because I was born here, and I haven't been here in too long. Make sense to you?"

There was silence from the alicorn and Khali snorted, "Chances are, you're not going to be allowed in. Wait outside."

Like hell.

Sigh. "Altair..."

I was sent to be your guardian. I will not.

"...My guardian? For what?" A perplexed look came over the blond's face and she spun around, giving Altair a glance that clearly said he had explaining to do.

Forget I said anything.

"ALTAIR!"

And here she was, seemingly talking to herself like a crazy loon. Hopefully, nobody was there quite yet. It wouldn't do at all.

There wasn't anyone there, at least not as far as Sylvester knew. He ran up to the shop almost immediately after Khali, even though he had heard what sounded like a scream only moments before. He caught a glimpse of the girl - shorter than he was, blonde, kinda sparkly, it was the Mini Pope! - and greeted her with an out-of-breath, "Oh, hey," before quickly turning back around to look down the block. Somehow he managed to miss the horse standing next to her, but surely he would see it later... right?

At the moment he was more concerned about his cousins, the very people he was running from. They were going someplace Not Fun, and Sylvester had really had enough of that. Haircuts and shoe stores and candy shops weren't his idea of a good time, and it was a good thing he happened to know Brownie would have nothing to do with this place after The Rhea Incident. As predicted, she grabbed August's hand more firmly and narrowed her eyes at him from across the street, quickening her pace until the toddler could barely keep up. She would certainly find a way to get back at him later, but for now he was alone to enjoy the rest of his day. Or almost alone...

Sylvester spun to face Khalindra and the little horse he now noticed immediately. "Sorry, I... Khali, you're bigger!" he said, smiling. Well, of course she was. It had been a long time! "You've got a unicorn...asus. Cool!"

"Altair, so help me I--" Cut off by the plushie. She was about to spin around and snap at whoever it was interrupting her very one sided argument with her companion when she noticed who it was, a bright smile coming over her face. "Well, well, plushie!" She greeted with a laugh, "I did, indeed. Not too long ago at all, actually..." A few days, at most. Her father had mildly freaked out, but moreso over the alicorn at her side.

"His name is Altair. He's an alicorn, and he has a horrid disposition." Her eyes shifted toward the dark colt, who came up to her waist.

I have a lovely disposition, thanks, blondie.

"Oh, you're about as pleasant as going to the dentist, hush." A flush came over the Tale's face as she returned her attention to Sylvester, "Sorry, I'm the only one that can hear him, I think. Dad couldn't, but he's human so...Anyway, how have you been?"

Rude, Khali. Talking about yourself so much.

"Oh..." Sylvester had just been hanging out at home with Morry and his cousins and taking the occasional trip to Guaxa, his strange parallel universe. Nothing that interesting. "I've been... around. Reading histories, visiting friends, stuff." He looked at Altair and gave the alicorn a wave. "Nice to meet you," he offered. "I can't hear him either. Uh, just so you know. Where do you get an alicorn that can talk to you in your head?" He knew where to get a dog easily enough, he had picked one up for August, but a baby horse?

Khalindra's brows furrowed, "I..." The dreams had seemed so real a week or two ago, but they had started to fade slightly. Not that they explained too much, in any case, but it would have been nice to remember what little the Elder had said. "I woke up with him, when I grew," she answered a few moments later, "He was there...before. Before I came here."

Oh, the Tale thought she sounded like a nut job, honestly. She didn't know if Sylvester would understand or not, so she just shrugged her shoulders and patted the colt's head.

Can you stop treating me like a farm animal?

Khali scowled, "I'm showing you affection. Don't make me take you to the glue factory. Anyway, my dad's definitely not pleased about him showing up. I'm on the fence.

You are SUCH a brat. I swear to g--

A mental wall slammed down and Khalindra was left in blissful silence, "Ah, that's better."

Sylvester nodded, pondering Khali's words for a moment. When he had grown he hadn't woken up to anything except an uncomfortable case of asphyxiation-by-shirt, but that didn't mean others couldn't wake up with horses. Admittedly Sylvester didn't really comprehend what she meant by 'before' since the only life he had ever lived was this one, but he accepted it at face value. When he had been younger he might have been jealous of something as cool as a past life, but now he had plenty of other things to worry about.

"Maybe I'm glad I can't hear him," he chuckled. "It must be nice to have someone to talk to all the time though? Maybe?"

"I suppose it is," Khalindra conceded. Sylvester was right, even though the little alicorn was infuriating at times simply because she knew he knew things and he wouldn't tell her. Always saying something about it not being her place to know just yet and messing up some cosmic balance. Made her want to kick him in the kidney.

It's a thrill to have me around, stuffing-boy. She knows it.

Sigh. Khali decided to ignore her companion who had managed to break through the block. It wasn't something Khali held very well just yet. "Do you want to go inside? Altair can wait out here, and frankly, I'd be quite interested in going indoors at the moment.

"Mmm hmm," Sylvester agreed. He kept his eyes fixed on Altair as he pulled open the door. "After you." She might have grown and gained a horse, but Sylvester remembered a time when the other Tale had expected somewhat courtly behavior. It had been kind of like being in a movie.

"So, what have you been up to? Besides all that?" he added, meaning the alicorn.
