I haven't posted here in a while, but from the looks of it, neither have many other people...
But I'm going to copy and paste a post I made in the Gaian Gay-Straight Alliance:
I was just wondering if any of you (in California) have heard about this:
Quote:
Well-funded anti-LGBT organizations are paying people to gather signatures to put a constitutional amendment on the November 2008 ballot that would prohibit marriage for gay and lesbian couples. In response to this very serious threat, the Equality for All campaign is launching a statewide effort to encourage Californians not to sign this discriminatory petition.
People from my school's GSA have been working with Equality For All. These petition gatherers have been standing outside of stores asking people to sign. Equality For All has been blocking these petition gatherers and talking to people before the petitioners can.
I haven't done this yet, but I'm hoping I'll be able to go this Saturday.
From what I hear, the people going around with the petitions are being paid a dollar per signature. These people usually do this because they need the money and this way they get it the same day and it's nontaxable and untraceable. Why?
A lot of these people have a warrant out for their arrest in other states and don't even really care about the issue, they just want their money.
To make things worse, some of these PSGs (Paid Signature Gatherers) are just lying to people, saying things like "Oh, sign our petition to lower gas prices!"
Which is very illegal. -_-
Anyway...
I sort of rambled on and on here because I'm really tired and I'm sure this won't make sense to me if I read it over when I'm more awake. >.<

I'm not sure exactly how you'd go about volunteering, I just signed up through my friend who is an honorary staff member at Equality For All.
(Honorary, meaning he's staff but doesn't get paid. whee )
But I'm sure I could find out. Also, I'm not sure if I can find out how to sign up just anywhere, but if you're in the San Diego area I might be able to help you out. 3nodding
As far as I know, there's only 28(?) days left to stop these petitioners and we'll need all the help we can get!

I figured posting this in more than one place would get more attention.
Also, I thought it'd be interesting to see people's take on this subject other than the people in the Gaian GSA.
So, opinions?
