Ability + Affinity/Aversion
Ancelin
Good job with the nesting birds, Ancelin. Now that you've become acquainted with wild birds, you need to get yourself one for a pet. Get a bit of hands on experience, you know? The bird can be any species, fantasy or naturally found in the wild, so long as you can get it somewhere. Document the first few days you spend with this bird, and how you go about bonding with it. Keep in mind that the bird may refuse to talk to you, and that if the bird is too large you will not be able to talk to it at all.

Lady Amhert's What?

Ancelin stood with her butt resting against the back counter of the cashier's station. She was at work, but on her hour lunch break. She was waiting for a 'special' delivery. After much deliberation Ancelin had decided it was time to get a new pet. Only this time, she wouldn't be expanding on her massive exotic fish collection. No, Ancelin was starting to realize she was quite gifted when it came to birds, and so forth had decided to take one on as a pet to further expand her knowledge of them. Why couldn't she just get a normal bird, one might ask? Simply because she didn't like any the store had to offer. The Parakeets where too hyper and jitter and never shut the hell up, and the parrots where too stupid. Yes, they could mimic humans just great, but when it came to holding a real conversation? PAH! They where too busy talking about 'the good old days' with previous masters. No. An had to special order this bird. Something she felt she could relate too better.

'ding-ding'

Ancelin turned her head up quickly when she heard the bell of the door being open, only to have her shoulders slump in dismay when it was just a small child with it's parents. She crossed her arms and turned her head down again, getting a raised eyebrow from the working cashier behind the counter.
"You're really excited about this new pet, aren't you? What did you get? Another lion fish?" asked a small girl who's name tag read "Sarah". She had short blond hair and a very small petiet frame, she was even shorter than Ancelin, standing 4'10. Sometimes people would ask if she was a tall dwarf, but no, she was simply short. Which seemed to get her a lot of attention from guys.

Ancelin shook her head.
"No, I ordered a bird this time." She said, to which Sarah tilted her head in confusion.
"A bird? I knew you where part bird, but I didn't know you liked them as pets."
"Yeah.. It's something I'm just taking interest in." Ancelin smiled. She hadn't told anybody yet about her new found powers. Sarah turned her head and smiled to someone behind the blue haired girl. When An heard the sound of approaching footsteps she prepared to turn her head to see who it was, but quickly shot her face forward again when it spoke.
"Hey ladies!" came the sound of Steve's voice.
"Hey Steve!" Sarah answered back. Ancelin didn't respond.
"And how are you two beautiful lovelies doing today?" Steve asked as he walked into the booth, he went to put his arm around An's shoulder, but she quickly shrugged him off and took a few steps away.
"You're really peppy today. What happened, did you score with a lady?" asked Sarah as she shot Ancelin a playful wink. An's face flushed with embarrassment and she shot Steve a hateful glare. Steve frowned at Ancelin's reaction, before he turned his head to Sarah.
"Something like that. But I wouldn't put it so crudely," he answered, his attitude suddenly going mellow at An's cold response.
"Suuuuure." Sarah said, before she turned around to ring out a customer.

"Hey Anny, listen.." Steve whispered as he reached out for An, she simply jerked her shoulder away and walked out of a hinged door.
"I don't want to talk to you." She said sharply, to which Steve followed in pursuit.
"An please!" he called back.
"Just go away!" An said sharply, loudly this time.

'ding-ding'

An shot her glance to the front door again, and this time Steve's gaze followed. A man in a moss-brown uniform came in carrying a large cage with a sheet over it. Under his other arm he had a sign sheet. That was it, alright. That was An's bird. An quickly pushed Steve out of her way with one arm and sped-walk over to the man.
"Are you Ancelin Kuronaho?" asked the delivery man, his name tag said "George".
"Yes! Is this my Amherst? An replied with much excitement. The man nodded.
"Yes-sir-y. All I need is for you to sign this paper on the dotted line and he's all yours. He didn't make a peep the entire way here, I was afraid he might be sick or something." said the man as he held out his clipboard. Ancelin took it and signed her name on a couple dotted lines, before she gave it back to the man and retrieved the cage.

"Oh, I'm sure he's just shy." She said with a smile, before she lifted the sheet up and took a peep at the bird. Sure enough, it was an Amherst. A Lady Amherst's Pheasant, that is. The man tipped his hat to Ancelin and said a couple parting words, but Ancelin was too busy looking at her new 'friend' to pay attention.

The bird gave her a firm glare with it's beady yellow eyes and puffed up it's chest in a threatening manner, his head plumage spreading out. Ancelin smiled and pat the side of the cage.
"Don't be afraid. I'm going to take very good care of you, so let's be friends, yeah?"
She got no reply. An frowned softly, but then assumed maybe he was just stressed out from his trip. Yes, once she got him home and he was relaxed, things would go by much more smoothly.
"Come on, I'll take you home." she said as she put the sheet back down over the cage.

"Anny.." came Steve's voice, who had been standing behind her the entire time. An shot a glare at the young man over her shoulder.
"Don't come near me, pervert."
"An! I'm sorry if I upset you! I thought it was what you wanted!"
"Just shut up and leave me alone!!" An said loudly, before she stormed out the door

'ding-ding' the door went for a final time.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Once Ancelin returned home she lifted the sheet off the cage to reveal the pheasant in his full glory. He was a Lady Amherst's Pheasant. And just like his name suggested, he looked like he was from the Victorian age with that 'wig' of white feathers collected around his head. The bird was awake, and still glaring daggers at the pheasant woman holding him captive. An smiled and carried him into the bedroom, where she had a large cage taking almost an entire wall. Ancelin opened the wire door to the bird cage she had set up for the pheasant, and then opened the door to the small cage the bird was held in.
"Here you go, this is your new home. I know it may be a little small considering what you're used too, but I'll let you roam the house whenever you want. This is just your private space for sleeping." An explained. The pheasant poked it's head out of the carrying cage and peered about, before it suddenly lept into the larger cage and hide in some bush plants An had transfered into the wooden floor.

The cage went from the floor to the ceiling. It had a wooden bottom full of potting soil and plants, which was roughly a foot deep. There where tree branches and the likes with twigs and leaves scattered about so he could make a nest when he choose to. The barrier was made out of gold colored wire that went all the way up to the ceiling with three large doors. One at the floor where the bird had just gone in, and two that where at An's head in height.

An left the door open and kneeled down on the floor so that her chest was hugged against her thighs. She rested her hands on her knees with her feet wide spread, smiling gently.
"Why don't you tell me your name?" An asked, while the bird glared at her from the bushes. "It's okay. I can talk to birds. I'm a pheasant, like you. I want to be friends with you." An tried to explain, but the bird still glared. An frowned softly, why wasn't the bird speaking to her?
"Well.. um.. I put some food in a bowl over there for you.. So if you get hungry it's there. There's also some water.. I have to go back to work, but I'll be back later tonight. Okay?" An said with a weak smile before she stood and walked out the door.

The pheasant slowly poked it's head out of the bush once the girl was gone and looked around. With a few bobs of it's head it walked over to the food dish and eyed what she had laid out for it. Surprisingly, at least to the bird, it was the right kind of food for him to eat. He pecked at it slowly, running his situation over in his mind.

Day 2

Ancelin sat in her living room couch with a small diary looking book and a pen in hand. It seemed to be her pet journal. She kept one to document the conditions of her tanks and the additions/loss of fish. But today she was reserving a page to document her progress with her new pheasant.

'He seems to be eating and drinking well, but he still wont come out of his cage.. I leave the door open and constantly reassure him that he's safe, but all he does is stare at me. He wont even speak to me. I don't understand it, I can speak to other birds, why can't I speak to him? I'm still just getting used to these abilities of mine.. Maybe I can only speak to certain breeds of birds? Who knows. I just wish he'd wander about, he seems so uncomfortable. I wish there was something I could do to make it better.'

An stopped jotting for a few seconds and glanced over her shoulder threw the bedroom door. The pheasant was currently grooming itself, pecking and preening under it's right wing. It shot it's head up and looked at Ancelin, before letting out a strange hiss. It quickly shot back under the bushes. Ancelin turned her head back and sighed. Maybe she should of got a parakeet after all.

Day 3

Ancelin sat down on her couch again and opened the book. She had a couple bandaids on her arms and face, along with various light scratches here and there. She had a sour expression on her face as she turned the page, leering at the bird cage while she clicked her pen.

Well, I have learned two things about my new feathered friend. 1: He is a champion at staring contests.. And 2: He gets violent when you try to pick him up.

Ancelin winced and rubbed her arm when she finished writing down the last sentence.

I've tried everything but he still wont talk to me. I've tried bribing him with treats. I've tried offering to take him outside. Everything. And he just stays in the bushes glaring at me. I don't know what I did to make him hate me so much, but it's really starting to get on my nerves. If things don't get better in the next week or so.. I think I'm just gonna send him back.

An sighed and closed her journal and set it down on her living room table. She then reached up to gently sooth her hair. With a confused expression she licked her fingers around something that didn't match the texture of her hair and pulled it out.
"You lost something!" she mocked as she called back to the bird in the cage, holding up one of it's flight feathers. The bird sent her a sharp yellow eyed glare, An simply grinned and blew him a raspberry.

Half a week had passed since Ancelin had acquired the pheasant, and she was still having no luck bonding with it. It only came out of it's hiding spots long enough to eat and drink, and whenever she would speak to it she was only met with glares and the ruffling of feathers.

Ancelin had decided to just leave the bird be and let him come to her in his own time. Today was cleaning day. Ancelin had accumulated all of her dirty laundry into a tall basket, and was working on going out the door with it.

She left the door open, seeing as her hands where full and the door opened inward she couldn't just kick it shut. She walked down the stares whistling a random song she heard off the radio.

The bird stuck his head out of the cage door. Ah, his freak of nature captor was gone. Great! Now he could get out of those damned bushes for a few moments without being met by staring eyes and incessant babbling.

Too bad the bird wouldn't be left with peace for much longer. Ancelin wasn't the only one in the apartment building that had pets. Whiskers, a cat that belonged to a small girl a few doors down, was currently walking back into the building after being let out to go to the bathroom. It paused when it came to Ancelin's door and peered inside. Whiskers prepared to go on it's way back to it's apartment door, before it heard the sound of bird-like cooing inside.

The cat flipped it's ears forward and lowered it's body closer to the ground, before it slowly began stalking into the three room apartment. Now instead of returning home to it's master, the bird had one thing on it's mind: Lunch!

The cat slowly made it's way towards the pheasants cage, slinking under the living room table and around the couch. It crotched low to the ground and let it's head peer threw the doorway into the bedroom. It was then it spotted it's pray. The pheasant was currently spreading out it's wings and flapping rapidly. Not really to fly, but to stretch them out a bit. It's feathers where fluffed out and spread apart madly.

Whiskers used this opportunity to quickly rush the bird. His tail flicked, his but rose in the air, and he quickly darted acrossed the room, lunging into the large wire cage.

The loud screaming and hooting of the pheasant could be heard along with crashes and slams as it flapped it's wings and desperately tried to get away from the cat.

Ancelin was just coming up the stares when she heard all the commotion. Once she realized this commotion was coming from her bedroom, Ancelin quickly ran threw the apartment to see what was going on.

What she found was the pheasant perched up on a fake log towards the ceiling while the cat climbed up in pursuit. Her brow furrowed, and Ancelin quickly reached out to grab her broom.
"Get away from my bird!!" Ancelin yelled, causing the cats head to turn in shock at the loud noise. Ancelin charged the cage and reached in, grabbing the cat by the scruff and ripping it out.
"MROWL!!" the cat snarled, going into chainsaw mode as it kicked and failed it's body around, claws grasping and cutting whatever it could get it's paws on. Ancelin let out a small scream and threw the cat on the ground.

"Get out!" she yelled, duel-hand wielding the broom now as she swung after the cat. It fell to the ground and with it's ears pinned against it's head quickly darted from the bedroom, threw the living room and out of the apartment. Ancelin slammed the door afterwards, before she took a deep breath.
"I HATE cats!!" she declared, throwing the broom to the ground.

Once Ancelin had the door slammed and had calmed down a notch, she looked down at her arm which she had grasped the cat with. There where cuts all over, and blood was currently running down her arms to her hand.
"I really, really hate cats." An said as she walked back into the bedroom to the bathroom where she kept the first aid kit.

The pheasant, who was shocked to be rescued by Ancelin, dismounted from the branch and slowly wobbled out of it's cage and to the bathroom door. Ancelin was currently leaning over the sink running her arm under water to wash away the blood. She didn't notice the bird as she opened up the cabnet and got out a bottle of iodine.

"... Erik." said the small pheasant with a deep voice. Ancelin looked up for a minute as if to question if she heard something, before she looked at the doorway where the bird was standing.
"What?" she asked.

"My name is Erik.. Thank you for saving me." answered the bird. Ancelin let out a bright smile and crouched down.
"Erik? That's a really pretty name. Why the change of heart? I thought you hated me." she said, before she realized blood was starting to run again. She quickly stood up and grabbed a wash cloth, resting it over her arm so that it wouldn't stain her clothing.

"Because you saved me.." answered Erik, before he woddled closer to the taller pheasant humanoid. "Thank you."
An smiled.
"You are very welcome, Erik."

Day 5

An sat down on the couch, left arm fully wrapped in gauze. Erik was currently strutting around the living room floor, taking in his new home. Ancelin smiled as she opened up her journal and clicked her pen, before she began her entry.

Ever since I saved Erik from the neighbors cat he's been very friendly and talkative towards me. I found out the reason he was so cold was because he was taken from the wild rather than raised in captivity as I had been told. And apparently he was taken away just before the females went into season. Apparently he missed out on his first mating season.. I'll contact the person I purchased him from again. Perhaps I can pull some strings and get him a mate.

"Hey Erik, how do you feel about going for a walk tonight?" An asked, taking a break from her journal. Erik stopped and turned his head nearly upside-down as he looked to the woman sitting on the couch.
"Sounds excellent. May I try this dip in dots again?"
An smirked and nodded her head, before she finished the last line of her entry.

This looks to be the start of a beautiful friendship.
