The forest was calm. A light mist filtered through the trees and reflected the small shafts of light that beamed through the branches. The only moved was within the lower branches or the below and little did the unkept skurri that moved from tree to tree know, that they were being watched by two large golden eyes.
In one silent swoop and flash of talons, there was the loud, terrified squeal of that known to all hunters of the Sentinel clan. The sound of a rodent being snatched up for the supper of a fellow hunter or fellow hunter's friends.
A few silent flaps of large wings and the hunter quickly perched himself back on a branch, his prey in his grasp that he started to rip the fur off of. Why were skurri so dang fluffy? And the large male continued to ready his kill, not seeming to care if he'd been watched or if anyone came across him.

No lesson before a while. Fog's schedule allowed her to wander in the lower parts of the woods. She liked the dancing lights hitting the ground. Silently, she began daydreaming. A noise, a faint one, brought her quickly back to reality. The mist couldn't completely hide the silhouette of another Sentinel several trees away. The teacher processed the noise as the scream of a Skurri. Silently, the Ghost left her branch to join the hunter. Child-like fascination was the reason of her curiosity. Hunting is not only a necessity, but an art. Secretly, she hoped the male she got closer of was a Hunter, with a capital H. Highfog landed a tree away from ThunderTalon, barely hidden by a pale filter.

The male diligently continued to de-fluff his kill before he raised his head, giving a hacking cough as he spat up some fur, shaking his head so that the fur clinging to his hooked beak with release itself from it and then went back to plucking the skurri.
It was only when the sound of another one perching caught his well trained ears, the sound of weight straining wood made him lift his head and falter slightly on his branch. Wing silently flapping in a flurry to straighten himself up before he noticed the form of another Sentinel.
He stared at the other for a few seconds, large eyes blinking now and again before he moved up the branch to get a better look at the person. Barely making a sound and with his large frame that was quite suprising and it made everything seem a lot more colder than it was, as the male stared the othe down, skurri still clutched in talons.

Taking a better look at the hunter, Highfog lifted her head as he moved. Calmly, in a whisper likely not to disturb ptoential preys still around, she introduced herself. "Hello, sir, I'm Highfog. I happen to have seen you catch this Skurri seconds ago." The connoisseur expressed her mind: "This swift, silent move... very impressive. Are you a Hunter?" Her yellow eyes wandered on ThunderTalon's meal. De-fluffing can be tricky with something as hairy as those critters. A look of curiosity on her face, she wondered if he could keep a good de-fluffed flesh/amount of edible flesh ratio.

The larger Sentinel watched her for a moment before a smile tugged at the corners of his mouth, his beak framing his smile nicely as his golden yellow eyes looked over the female. In a smooth movement he gave a sort of, odd placed bow, wings fanning out before he placed them by his side and looked at his visitor.
"That I am, it's a pleasure to meet you Highfog."
His voice had an air around it, making him sound friendly and approachable while he stood there on the branch and watched her.
"Thank you for the compliment...so...what is your task within the clan?" He asked curiously, still holding the dead skurri in his talons while he stood watching over the female.

Highfog's feathers fluffed slightly around her face. She whispered, still careful about the silence: "Why, I am a teacher. I can't say I don't like my task... but when I am not surrounded by fragile fluffballs, I love choosing my meal among the smaller and more edible kind."
Lowering her eyes as she took another look at the Skurri, she added: "I hope I haven't disturbed you... what is your name, by the way?" While saying this, she blinked and looked back at ThunderTalon. She was not surprised not to see any unnatural color on his body. Some individuals, especially obnoxious bards, are way too psychedelic and seem to rely entirely on said hunters in order to eat.

He had to chuckle at that. Yes, Teacher's did seem to have a lack of activities when it came to a lack of fledglings to teach...should probably do something about that. But he quickly went back to listening to her and shook his head at her words.
"Disturbed? You haven't disturbed anything, sometimes it's helpful to feed ones curiousity."
With that he quickly ripped off the last bit of fluff from his kill before spitting it away and then looked back at her.
"Me? My name's ThunderTalon." He said, fluffing himself slightly as he shook his form free of any dust or insects before moving back to his kill and ripping a piece of flesh from it. Not the nicest of scenes but it was technically food and instead of eating it for himself he held it out for her, offering her it.

"Well!", replied Highfog with more thrill in her voice. "I hoped you would understand." Surprised, she slowly took the piece of meat and started swallowing it. "Thank y-you", she said friendly, despite all warnings about speaking and eating at the same time. When she was done, she coughed and spoke again. "You see, I only had truly felt like I had grown up when I caught my first Mus, as a fledgling. I'm too much of an intellectual person to make it my task." She winked. "We need to share this knowledge with kids."
Suddenly, Fog shook her head, dissatisfied with her own behaviour. "I'm talking too much. Teachers do that a lot."

The male watched her, nodding to her words as he wisely ate without speaking for fear of choking...that would quickly put his hunting days to an end. If he didn't cough it back up atleast.
As she commented on talking too much he shook his head, smiling at her as he sat there and ripping another piece of flesh of for her.
"Not at all, I like listening to others talking." He started, briefly lifting a wing to preen and straighten his feathers from the earlier flutter he'd gotten them into. "Besides, I'm not that talkative...I like to listen."

Fog coughed again. She needed to be careful and watch her manners. Anyway, it was all quickly forgotten. "You must have been a good student", she commented as she started cleaning slowly her beak with the back of her wing, "that's nice." When she stopped rubbing her beak, she changed the subject, pensive. "Have you ever caught something special?"

He smiled at that, mind wandering back to his fledgling days...he wasn't a particularly bad student, but neither did he answer a lot of questions the teacher gave him either and he gave a smooth shrug of the shoulders as he turned back to his new friend.
"Half and half really." He stated before he continued to rip of equal pieces of flesh for the both of them, smiling at her now and again before her next question caught his attention.
"Well..." He started, straightening himself slightly before he cleared his throat. "I caught a Serpe once...one of those egg eaters, y'know...hanging uncomfortably close to a clutch of eggs so I thought I'd n** it's dinner plan in the butt."

More carefully, the teacher ate the second piece. Skurris are definitely the best kind of snack. After swallowing this delight, she rubbed her beak again, listening to ThunderTalon. "A Serpe? The scaled, slithering critter? Good job, it could have eaten somebody I, or you know", sighed Fog in relief. "I don't really like these, even as companions." She would be very shocked to find one in the same tree as hatchlings, and her face showed this disgust. Ooh, she didn't notice the mist was that thick. Looking up, she wondered out loud: "I didn't realize it was so hard to see today."
