Climbing trees is fun... but it's also hard work, especially when climbing up into the limbs of one of the huge oak trees in the park. Of course, they're also big enough to rest on, and they offer a great veiw, once you're up there.
The problem is getting down. Or at least it always had been for Avery. It wasn't that he was clumsy, it was that he was impatient and tried to hurry everywhere, including down the side of a tree, as if he were a squirrel.
And so it was that when he decided it was time to come down, that Avery's sandaled foot slipped from the bark, and he felt the familiar weightless sensation of falling. Arms flung out, and he caught himself on the branch, scraping up his chest and arms in the process, where his shirt rode up after catching on the bark.
"OW! Aw, man... Mom is gonna lecture me again..." he complained, as he let himself drop the rest of the way to the ground, examining what scrapes he could. They were bleeding slightly, but nothing too bad. At least he'd caught himself this time...
"Well, this kills the day. Now I hafta get 'em cleaned, or I'll get an even worse lecture!" he cried, flinging his arms out to the side, wincing as it pulled the scratches.
He turned to start down the path, towards the bathrooms, where there'd be soap and water.

Rokiro was resting under one of the trees near the path, sitting in the shade. He had the top three buttons of a white button-up shirt unbuttoned, and a stethoscope's earpieces in his ears. His right hand was pressing the listening end of the instrument against his chest, and moving it occasionally. He was listening to his own heartbeat, eyes closed. It relaxed him. Made it easier to deal with everything in his life. Plus, he enjoyed it. He didn't notice the other coming down the path, or he would have immediately offered to take care of his wounds for him. Due to the fact that his eyes were closed, he didn't notice him when he was right in front of him, either. Didn't hear him. Only heard the th-thump of his own heartbeat. A slightly irregular beat at that, but a beat nonetheless.

Avery walked on, hissing as his shirt brushed up against his scraped tummy. One more reason to not wear it, to his mind. As he passed a tree, he noticed that someone was sitting underneath it... and... what were they doing?
He stopped, unabashedly staring and suddenly curious. The sting of his scrapes seemed to lessen immediately as his attention was diverted from them.
The guy had one of those things from the doctor's office, that you listened to hearts and breathing with... why did he have it out here? Almost of their own volition, Avery's feet directed him towards the other.
"Hey... excuse me? What'cha doin'?" he asked, pausing a few feet away and leaning over with a curious smile on his face.

He was started out of listening, and quickly pulled the earpieces off, looking over at who had spoken. A soft smile touched his lips, and he chuckled a bit, shaking his head almost fondly.
"I really wish you wouldn't sneak up. You scared the living daylights out of me. I was listening to my heartbeat. It calms me down. Besides, it's interesting."
He completely removed the stethoscope from his person, and set it on his lap, studying the one before him.
"Errr... should I look at those scrapes and such for you?"

Avery looked back at the open path he'd been walking down, completely in the open, and thought about arguing the point that he hadn't snuck... but decided it wasn't a big deal.
He returned his look to the other boy when he asked his question and looked down at himself, looking back up with a sheepish grin.
"Ah... it's not that bad... you got something better than soap and water?" he asked, curiously.
"Oh, yeah! My name's Avery! It's nice to meet you!" he remembered to introduce himself and held out his hand, ignoring the pull of the scrapes on his forearm as he did so.

"Rokiro. Pleasure's mine."
He shook the boy's hand, and reached behind him to his backpack, where he kept a first aid kit.
"I've got better than soap and water, if that's what you were really worried about - though from the look of those scrapes, soap and water would have sufficed."
He patted the place beside him.
"Sit. Let me take a look."

Avery happily flopped down next to Rokiro rather gracelessly, and presented his forearm to the other, talking while it was tended to.
"Yeah, I was just gonna head to the bathrooms and wash up. If I didn't, mom would lecture me... She's always telling me to be more careful, and slow down, and... put on some shoes, or stuff like that," he said, then added, with a put upon sigh, "Moms."
"You're probably gonna put some of that stinging stuff on it, aren't you? ... Mm... Preocide? Whatever. It fizzes," he waved airily with his other hand as he spoke.
(( I imagine a real kit would have iodine? *shrug* I dunno it's what we use at work... ))

"You mean Bactine or Peroxide, as in the 'stinging stuff'. No, I have Iodine. It's better, and it doesn't sting near as much as the other."
He turned around to pull out a first-aid kit from behind him, opening it up, and taking out a bottle of the stuff, as well as a few cotton swabs and a couple of bandaids.
"They're just scrapes, so they shouldn't be that hard to treat. You've got a lot of them though..." he observed, while dabbing the wounds with Iodine. "You do a lot of climbing?"

Avery watched with interest as the brown liquid was carefully applied to the scrapes and scratched the shell of his ear gently when asked the question.
"Yeah, I guess so. I like it up high. Mom says it's 'cause I came from up there, but I just like it. Hey, why's that iodine stuff brown, anyway?" he asked, curiosity afire. His white fluffy wings unfolded a little behind him, keeping him balanced as he leaned forward, and his golden halo tilted a little more crookedly, too.

Rokiro finished applying the stuff, and started to dab some of the excess off, before applying bandages to the scrapes. When asked the question, he paused in his ministrations, and thought. Naturally bright he may have been, but some answers took time to formulate. This was one of them. He answered a few moments later.
"Iodine is sometimes distilled from brown algae. But mostly, Iodine is NOT brown. Not in it's original, gaseous state. It's the liquid form that's brown. And the darker brown it is, the higher the concentration of Iodine. Sometimes, the really strong stuff can be almost black."

Avery blinked and his mouth fell open into a small 'o', as he hadn't expected such a complete answer to his question. Then he fell silent, an unusual state for the young angel, and he frowned in thought as he filed all of that away.
He shifted so Rokiro could get to a different scrape, and doing so broke his concentration. He lifted his gaze, a sparkle showing in it as he grinned one of his infectious grins at the older angel.
"Wow, you're really smart! That is so cool. I bet you do good in school! Are you going to be a doctor? I bet people'd trust you if you were a doctor," he added, grinning at the other's wings. "Who wouldn't want an angel for a doctor, right?" he asked.

Rokiro shook his head a bit, and shrugged.
"I'm poor. I don't have enough money to afford to go to school for that sort of thing. I make do, though. I do the best that I can with what knowledge I have."
He smiled back at the other angel, and finished tying the last bandage, before putting everything back into the medical kit, and snapping it shut.
"That ought to about do it... Though, honestly, I wouldn't mind the company if you decided to stick around a little longer. I'm.... fairly lonely, as it is."

Avery didn't even have to think about it.
"Okay!" he said, and flopped down onto the ground next to Rokiro, stretching his legs out in front of him and leaning back on his hands. He wiggled his toes in their sandals.
"So, whatcha wanna do?" he asked, and smiled. He took a look around, seeing if there was anything that caught his eye. Well, there was always the lake. But it was a little cold for that, still. And he had a feeling Rokiro wasn't as willing as he was to just jump in.
Hmm... just then his hair was tossed by a gust of wind, and he grinned. He'd seen a kite vendor earlier, up the path. They were inexpensive, and they wouldn't last much beyond today, but it was worth a suggestion.
"Hey, how about kites? I saw a man selling 'em up there a ways," he said, and pointed up the path.
