"Teeeeeeeeee-BALL. TEEEEE-BALL." Trance winced a little at the screech of Connor's pre-pubescent squeal. It was his own fault though. He'd PROMISED tee-ball, and god forbid if he didn't deliver he'd have to put up with this nonsense from Con all day.

Crouching down in the dirt in a far corner of the park, he set up the tee-ball stand he'd brought tucked under his armpit. Brightly outfitted in primary colors, like its owner, it was made for toddlers. The oversized ball on top was more of a wiffle ball than anything, though Trance was afraid of the damage Connor might do to it. He was a little strong for his age sometimes. Okay, "a little" was an understatement.

"TEE-BALLLLLLL. Wheresse OUTFIELD, pop?" Connor jiggle-bounce-shuffled from one foot to the other excitedly. He held a bat, plastic, hollow, belonging to the same set as the ball and stand. "HOMERUN." He swung the bat haphazardly, nearly smacking Trance in the shin as he stood up again.

Trance looked around absently at the park. He couldn't see anyone Connor's age...hopefully someone might show up so that they could drain Connor's energy together instead of putting the burden all on him. "Looks like it's just us for the moment. Maybe someone'll show up in a bit. I'll be your outfield for now." He grinned. "Betcha can't get one past me."

Connor smacked the bat against his sneaker, mimicking what he'd seen on real baseball games. "UH-HUH. HOMERUN." He pointed to the sky past Trance and grinned. Trying on a real batting stance, he smacked at the ball awkwardly -and missed completely. Instead of the ball going flying, the stand underneath flipped up and fell over. "Oops." He grinned charmingly.

Elazu bounced excitedly in his car seat, staring out the window as they drove past cars, parked and moving. Aubrey was driving of course, eyeing the boy from time to time in the review mirror to make sure he actually stayed in the car seat. They had been spending most of their free time working on Elazu's control of his 'powers.' Aubrey had figured that it was about time for him to get a nice break and a reward in one.

So as much as he hated being out in public, in the middle of the afternoon no less, he decided to take Elazu to the park. The park was a wonderful way for Elazu to get all of that toddler 'steam' out of his system. They arrived at the park in no time, and he found a parking spot with ease, apparently it was not the time of day for the rest of the kids to be around.

" Are we there yet?" Elazu tried his best to stay in his car seat, his tail flicking out from under him in excitement.

" Yes 'Lazu we are," Aubrey replied as he stood out of the car, shutting his door before walking to the other side of the car. He opened the door and Elazu jumped out before it was even open all of the way. " Hey! What did I tell you about waiting?"

" You take too long, Bro!" Elazu grinned before dashing off into the park, arms out in an attempt to make wings as he tried to keep his balance. His attention was drawn by the sound of another child calling out. He tilted his head curiously before changing direction and running to the other boy and adult he saw. " Hey-yo!"

Con pivoted with the bat in his hand to set the new, potential tee-ball player in his sights, while Trance sighed a sigh of relief. A kid his age! Excellent.

"HI. I'M CON. 'anna TEE-BALL wif me?" The sentence was a little lacking verbs but the gist of it and the utter glee were both still there. He swung the bat in demonstration, then practically shoved it at Elazu before raising his arms and clapping at Trance. "BALL, PEEZ."

Trance tossed the ball lightly to Con, chuckling. "Calm down, Con."

Connor caught the ball nimbly, much better at catch than hitting and placed it carefully on the stand.

"HOKAY. You go now. You..." He pantomimed a swing. "You tee-balled 'fore? Wassur name?"

Elazu held the bat gingerly, as if trying to decide whether he really did want to play or not. He eyed his brother, who had finally made it to the field after locking the car, who chuckled with a nod before finally plopping into a shaded seat. Elazu grinned then stared at Con with a friendly smile.

" I'm Elazu!" He held out a hand, resting the bat on his shoulder with his other hand. " I never played tee-ball before though. How you play?" He eyed the tee with the ball on top. He had seen the bat before, but the tee stand and the ball on top was all new to him.

Con shook the other boy's hand enthusiastically, then pointed at the ball on the stand. "Y'SMACKit, so it FLIES. Annen, annen, we try an' gettit." He ran out in front of the tee into the makeshift infield which was really just Trance standing in some grass. He crouched down a bit, resting his hands on his knees and grinned at Elazu.

"C'MON 'LAZU!" He cheered enthusiastically. If Con was anything, he was all about fair-play. There wasn't such a thing as a team in Con's mind yet. It was all about how much fun you could get out of the game.

Elazu watched Con for a moment, an uneasy look crossing his face for a moment. It was something new to him, but it did seem like a lot of fun, especially the smacking part. He grinned grabbing the bat with both hands before arching it way back, then throwing it forward toward the tee-ball.

To his surprise he did hit it, but it was hardly a smack, it was more of a knick. It popped off the bat, barely bouncing away from the tee. Elazu huffed, pointing at the ball accusingly. " Its broke."

"No, thasgood!" Con trotted over from the field to pick up the ball from the short distance it'd rolled. "You did bester than me." He beamed, and put the ball on the tee again. "HOKAY. Again. Y'get..." He squinted at his fingers, trying to count. "THIS MANY TRIES." He held up three fingers. "T-th-three. YAH THREE."

Backing up into the infield again, he smacked one hand each other, a motion that would have had better effect if he'd actually had a glove instead of just his hands. "LESGO. Y'CANDOOIT!"

Elazu's tail flicked behind him angrily, he wasn't a sore loser, but it seemed like so much fun! He didn't want to be bad at it if it was a fun thing to do!

He nodded at Con, repeating the number out loud before it was time for serious business. Once Con was out in the field again, he took a deep breath, his chest puffing out before he let the air out in a huff. He turned to the side and held the bat up again, glaring at the tee-ball. A good arch back and he swung the bat forward, it wizzed over the ball, which only wiggled from the force of the breeze from the bat. He glared at the ball, his glare only turning into a look of embarrassment as he heard his older brother chuckle behind him.

He huffed and turned around, " Quiet Aubrey! You can't do better!" He turned back to the tee-ball, whacking at the ball with the bat, this time feeling it connect and watched the ball soar off the tee toward Con.

After "The Incident" (to be documented in Caden's journal shortly), both Ethan and Caden were absolutely beaming. As they briskly walked towards home, though, Caden became exceedingly excited, pointing at an open field in the local park.
"What's up, buddy?"
Ethan looked around, not recognizing what was going on (completely missing the brilliant game of t-ball happening out on the field), and hoped that Caden would give him another clue as to what he wanted. However, Caden merely responded by pouting, stamping his foot on the pavement, and stubbornly pointing toward the horizon. As Ethan was in a rather pleasant mood today, he patted Caden on the head, and the two were off into the distance.
"Well alright then!"

Con scrambled after the ball, tumbling forward in an extravagant gesture to meet it in the dirt. When he resurfaced in a cloud of dirt, he was filthy, but he'd won his mighty battle over the wiffleball. "HOYAH, I GOT IT!" He jogged over back to the stand and Elazu, and beaming, presented him with the ball.

"Tha' wassa good one! I k'n only hit it that far sometimes, an' mossa the time I don't, so you're bester n' me lots." He watched Elazu with beaming adoration. "I betcha if you wannid, you coul' hit the ball to the MOON."

Elazu's eyes seemed to sparkle at Con's mention of the moon. He wondered if he really could hit something that hard. After all, Con had said it so maybe he could! He grinned brightly back at Con before holding out the bat to him.

" Nah I bet you're better! You knew how to play better than I did. Your turn though! I swung three times."

Caden lead Ethan blindly on -- for what seemed like hours -- into the field of grass. Finally, the blurs on the horizon grew clear enough for Ethan to realize what Caden had wanted all along.
"Oh! Look! They're playing t-ball."
The spirit-child tugged on his hand again, obviously ignoring Ethan's sudden epiphany, and reminded him that he had once again forgot to put in his contact-lenses in the morning (who knows how many times this has happened!). Slightly jogging to keep up with Caden, Ethan found himself stumbling when the spirit child stopped, 20 feet away from the lively scene.

"Hokay!" Con took the bat and set the ball back on the tee. He took his best batter's stance, hoping to impress his new buddy. "IMMA SMACK IT." He wound up and...

STRIKE ONE. His bat cleared the tee entirely, knocking the wiffle ball off, with just the wind of missing it. He grinned and kicked the dirt a bit as he picked the ball back up to set it on the tee. "I'll getter this time."

This time, he hit the ball with a smack off the top. It spun uncertainly on the tee, but Con wasn't done yet. He continued to whirl around in a spin of ridiculous momentum until he spun back around and smacked it again. And this time it flew! A pop ball, it didn't go as far as Elazu's did, hitting the ground in front with a small cloud of dust. "A'RIGHT!" Con grinned, and threw his bat up into the air. Then winced and dodged it when it came back down. "I GOTTIT, DIDJU SEE??!!"

Elazu clapped excitedly for Con, hoping into the air with enthusiasm.
" I saw! Good jobs! You threw the bats so high up too!" He laughed before picking up the bat and resting it on his shoulder again. " Does your adult play too? My bro doesn't, hes a party poop, as Mama calls him."

His eyes momentarily lingered at the sight of two newcomers, a wide and friendly grin plastered upon his face as he waved at them. " Hiiiii! You wanna play Tee-Ball wit us?!" He hoped he could invite them as Con had invited him, for it seemed the more the merrier with this game.

Apparently Caden had seen someone he knew, as well as a couple of strangers, who caused him to stop dead in his tracks. Ethan could barely make out a lanky silhouette of an arm waving frantically at himself and at little Caden. He heard a familiar voice call out for Caden to join in on the tee-ball session, but due to his awful vision, couldn't identify who it was.
"Why don't you go play, Caden?"
Ethan gently pushed the young boy towards what he hoped was the tee-ball game, as Caden reluctantly dragged his (foggy) feet in the ground, not quite leaving a trail.
"We'll be right there!"
