The minute rustle of his effort to stay hidden rang in Lucretia's ear like something she should recognize, but couldn't put together. Her head slowly rotated to face its source, scouring the leaves again for sign of a presence, though none was seen. She found the fur on the back of her neck rising with her emotions, the rush of the hunt, the fear of the unknown, and the sheer curiosity that her eyes brimmed with.
Her mouth hung agape as she took a hesitant step forward, just one paw in the air, but infinitesimally closer to Kuragari. She felt her hear thrumming in her chest, the rushing blood sounding in her ears like the small bird she'd first seen hovering on the outskirts of the forest. The contact of her foot and the ground was unsure, and unsteady; for a moment she faltered. But the inquisitive nature from L and the courage that Sora once had was also in that pulse.
Closing her mouth and locking her jaw, she was enveloped in the darkness in front of Kuragari, but it was now her eyes that were wide open. It was as though she'd stepped into an abyssal darkness, and she was blind to the god before her. But she stood. Legs locked and unseeing eyes still hunting in the darkness.

Suddenly Kuragari was disgusted with himself. Ridiculous. Toying with some kit? That was hardly anything to brag about. He could almost smell the fear and tension coming off her in waves, but if anything, now her expression looked almost eager. No... True, she might be as weak as any kit on the outside, but this Srebrenka was certainly an oddity, her inner workings a mystery to him. She was so curious about everything in her own quiet way, even more so than he'd been as a naive young kit trying to understand a world that defied logic or understanding. It would be so easy to rip past her defenses and uncover what it truly was that made her tick.
To bring her darkest fears into the light...
That was one reason for the god's normally iron grip on his self control, anyway. His muscles tensed slightly as he erased even the thought from his mind.
"Ready to continue?" When he spoke, the words were deliberately cool and unruffled, showing no signs of his self-directed irritation. He paced back into that shaft of light so it illuminated his manacles and dark flanks more clearly. "Although I believe we've probably gone far enough." Kuragari breathed in the rank jungle scents, concentrating more closely on their surroundings. Yes, this would be as good as any place to begin. Diverging from the track he'd been going to take was a smaller trail that by the scent had been in use quite recently.

Lucretia flinched at the noise, the slight puff of air released from his mouth that brushed past her as tenderly as any other breeze. At his revelation, her chocolate brown eyes locked onto his, as though she was trying to understand why he'd not done it sooner. Her small lips pursed as she waited for her heart to remove itself from her throat before she could begin to speak.
But even then, her mouth did not move, apart from the nodding. In synch with that motion, her ears pressed backwards, the only physical sign of her emotion. Her footsteps were nearly as hesitant as she stepped closer to the god, though something within now told her Kuragari was dangerous, and resisted the proximity that she put herself at.

Kuragari met her gaze for a moment, bloodred eyes unreadable behind strands of silvery hair. He could feel her tensing, and a small part of him yet reveled in her terror. This had been amusing while she was clear-headed enough to hold her own, before he'd had that sudden need to win. For a moment he had thought... Anyway, now it was something else entirely, and whatever it was had ceased to amuse him. He kept his muscles deliberately still as the kit mustered up her courage and came closer; whether to prevent himself stiffening in shock or to keep from frightening her further, the god wasn't entirely sure.
How much should he surrender himself to his element, his purpose in existence? The god had learned to accept some of what his domain meant, and he clung to his still-uncrossable line all the more strongly because of it. But somewhere, sometime while they hunted in the heavy darkness, perhaps this line had already been crossed. It was no use denying that he was Fear, after all.
A noise caught his attention - the slightest of rustlings slightly above them, but he'd been questing for something else to focus on and to Kuragari it seemed loud as a thunderclap. His eyes flicked upward, breaking the contact, ears swiveling to pinpoint the noise, then he was off again without another word. He clung to the darkest shadows automatically, moving with a smooth, unhurried gait that was apparently unhindered by his shackled forepaws. As usual, the links made not even the ghost of a sound when they hit each other. Control. That was the key.
