I was having a conversation with one friend and out came one of the stupidest things I've heard.
"I accept all religions and don't want to offend you but Christianity is the only right religion."
Thats like saying I don't mean to harm you but I must stab you now.
I was just wondering if any of you have heard something similar or maybe even said something similar.
I aked him how he knew and when he said because the bible says so I mentioned that his bibles been re written and altered otherwise. He didn't believe me.
No one ever does.

"Because the Bible says so" is about as good of a reason as believing that Elvis is alive because "The National Enquirer says so."

I've had a few experiences like that, for example this one time I was having a debate as to whether there was proof of evolution or not
They said their god created it
I tried to explain how there IS proof due to archaeological findings
They still said that their god did it
So I asked them "Then who created your god? Where the hell did he come from then?"
They said heaven
I couldn't help but laugh

Then the hunt will be on for you. I used to go to a Catholic school.
[Where Religious Studies was mandatory.]
And I got this a lot.

Ugh. I hate people that are so close-minded about other people's religions.
There is no such thing as a "right religion". I would have smacked him/her in the face.

That is one of the things about the opinions of some religions. They seem so arrogant, because simply from an upbringing, people get their own sets of beliefs, and then when they are introduced to the outside world they realize that everyone else is, "Wrong," in their religion. Just thinking that someone is going to hell simply because their parents taught them different is just odd. I prefer the beliefs that if people do what they think is the will of god, they will go to heaven, but unfortunately, atheists are an exception to the rule. Since we don't believe in god, we are already damned. I think of god as a metaphor for what is, "The greater good." But apparently that is still too abstract for some people.
On a lighter note, I believe we have a thread that eventually jokes about the bible's current, "Edition." I believe we settled on something like, "Version 20XX Directors' Edition."
