The wolf trotted through the night like a shadow, the moonless night sky covering all the world in darkness. Stars twinkled high above, little pinpricks of light that did little to guide ones way - but Adenru needed no light, needed no map; he had learned his way around the woods and plains well enough that light was unnecessary. Besides which, he had his nose to help guide his way, and the feel of the rise and fall of earth told him everything he could possibly need to know.
Oh, though once a stranger to the lands, the autumn male had had many a season to get to know the land surrounding Telk. Like a golden shadow he'd drifted, in and out of territories, unassuming, unknown and (most importantly) unseen. Here and there he traveled, keeping to his own council, listening to the rumors that danced upon wind and wing of this pack or that; of the beliefs of loners o'er yonder, and everything else in between. He had familiarized himself with territories, both large and small, and had met many within his journey.
Some walked away having met a cordial and civil wolf, intelligent, bright, and amicable with a good sense of humor. Others yet didn't walk away at all, and what remained of their corpses was left to the birds and rodents that wished to feast on fresh meat. Young, old, puppy, elder, or a wolf just in his or her prime it mattered not to the male. Either one was worthy or they failed to capture his good graces. . . .
He felt no pity, no remorse over the loss of life. A few had begged mercy, in which he had responded that there would be no such thing. A few others had put up a good fight, rarer still a great fight, but they always succumbed. The large male wasn't heartless, but there were some that were more worthy than others. . . .
The rest - disposable. Nothing but treats and toys, able to be discarded upon a whim. Oh, the male didn't kill all that he found unsatisfactory, no. The lucky ones were the ones that were killed; those that found his teeth sunk within their flesh, their blood spilled were the ones in trouble. For if Adenru didn't kill them, the virus he carried would. Not every soul would catch it; some would get sick and fight it, some might never even know their bodies warred off the disease! But those not so lucky would succumb. . .some sooner than others. But such was the way of life.
The male paused in his wandering, lifting his nose to test the scents upon the wind. His two daughters weren't far to the west of them, where they'd been stationed to protect their small plot of land. The woods were heavy with wolves, many loners, some involved in packs, but the decision had been made. This land would serve well as a new breeding ground - he'd have to begin to recruit, or at least form allegiances with those worthy of his time. There were many more he'd rather see terminated and wiped out. . . . but a few had potential, a very few.
It wouldn't be easy rising to the top. But it would happen. The world would be cleansed, and only the best of the best would survive. Shaking out his plush coat, still thick as winter had yet to give way to spring, the wolf continued upon his way. It was quiet. . . . . but any lurking were smart enough to keep out of his way.

It was nights like these that Sakura wished she'd been born with a darker coat. The pinks and whites were so bright she often felt like a beacon, unable to hide from the blindest wolves. She knew that every ray -- every particle -- of light given off by the stars was reflected in her annoying coat. Usually, Sakura was quite fond of her pelt. She knew that it was bright and attractive; befitting of the princess she was.
Contrary to her belief, Sakura could slink along in the darkness unnoticed, and she could do it very well. She made it her business to avoid being seen by anything with p***k ears, four legs and a tail. Sakura hated other wolves. They were all bumbling idiots concerned only with food and mating. Idiots. The lone female huffed as she trotted along silently. That was one good thing about nights like this. . . hardly any wolves were out in such darkness. But she, she knew her way around the forest. She had lived in a pack, she had lived by herself, she had lived with the two-leggers and their tribes. And she knew the way each of those groups saw the forest.
After all, it was her duty to be a silent assassin, tracking her prey unnoticed until the perfect time to strike. This work was what she'd trained for her entire life. She and Alexander would have their fateful day. . . But not now. She wasn't ready yet. Not quite.
Unfortunately for Sakura, she got so caught up in plotting that she became careless. Her black paw trod upon an old branch from a tree. The cold of winter had weakened the wood and it cracked audibly under her weight. The female immediately froze, ears pricked, waiting to see if anyone nearby had heard her little mishap.

A branch snapped, ringing out in the silence like a bullet from a gun. The peace of the night was shattered by such a simple sound, and the autumn wolf turned his ears this way and that, focusing only on the sound. So . . . he wasn't alone this evening, was he?
Not at all afraid or intimidated by whatever lurked within the night's darkness, Adenru changed his position to investigate the source. A bear? No, the stupid lugs were too large to move so quietly within the woods. The snap had been no mere twig, and therefor whatever lurked in the night had weight; a fox? Perhaps. A lynx? Possibly, though he had yet to catch the stench of one so near. A deer would have turned tail and run, and anything else seemed too small. Perhaps a fellow wolf had decided to roam this night as well?
Slinking silently over the under brush, careful of where he placed his paws so as to not be as foolish as Sakura, it didn't take Adenru long to locate the source. He saw her shape first - definitely wolf - and could easily pick out the lighter colours of her coat. At such a distance in the dead of night, he didn't see pink but he could tell the majority of her was pale mixed with ebony. The crazy and blood thirsty part of Adenru wished nothing more than to lunge and attack, and yet at the same moment Sakura was offered a saving grace - worthy.
This one, this one might very well prove herself to be something. This one that lurked the dead of night with such silence, albeit not accuracy, was worth to be spared a few breaths. Perhaps. Civility called that should she be marked with death, he would hand it to her after knowing for sure whether or not her fate was to be damned. For as evil, and crazy as Adenru was, he was a polite wolf who spent a great deal of mind on proving his civility to the world.
"Found you." His velvet voice broke the silence, rich with amusement and a hidden sadism. Standing tall and proud, wave carried high with his self-assurance, the golden fighter gazed out at the femme before him. "A pity you took the wrong step, else you might have shimmied by without notice."
