Idk... sometimes they can sound good sometimes they cant. Im a female tuba player too and we always have a tuba trio cause there's only 3 tuba players in the high school. If we play and hold a note and the sound isnt solid the band says it sounds like an jet plane...lol.
lol we played a G in class the other day and my bd made the hole class listen to it and yeah it was like an airplane.
And a high D isn't that hard! if you can play your Bb scale 2 octives than it should be easy...i've only been playing for about a year and i'm the only tuba out of 8 that can play 2 octives...yeah thats sad i know....and tuba trios can sound great if everyone is perfectly in tune with eachother, nobody drags, and the peice is divided pretty well.
