Alera was seated at the desk quickly trying to get a new batch of herbs stored. They had just finished drying and she wanted to get them put away before her student arrived. She had been hired a little while ago but had not had anyone to teach. She had been a little surprised to recive a letter indicating her first student was ready to attend class.

Alera was feeling a little bit uneasy about this. She was glad to have gotten the job but she was nery new at this. Sure she new all about healing and medicinal plants, but she had never taught it to anyone before. With so much to go over she was a little unsure where to begin. Alera sighed. She was just going to have to wing this first lesson and take if from there.

Alair wound through the deep hallways of the Musaeum, a piece of paper clutched in his hands. He was finally going to get a class about this stuff he produced! The only thing overshadowing his excitement was the class was in the middle of the day, and that meant Papa couldn't be there.

Finally, Alair found the door he was looking for. Biting his lip to keep from screeching in excitement, the boy knocked loudly.

Upon hearing the knock Alera looked up from her herbs. That must be her student now. He hands quickly waved over the desk, brushing the last of the herbs into jars. No sense in having the room look messy.

"The door is unlocked. You can come on in." She called out.

Slowly the penicillin boy pushed the door open. A shiver of nervous excitement ran through him. "Hi, I'm Alair. I'm here for class?" Quickly he glanced around the room, before giving the teacher a bright smile.

Alera stood up an smiled kindly. He looked a little nervous. It would be best to try and make him feel comfortable. "Good morning and welcome. I'm Alera I'm going to be your instructor in the healing arts. It's nice to meet you Alair."

She motioned to a nearby chair. "You can go ahead and have a seat. I'd like to start by getting to know you a bit. Have you any prior knowledge of any medicines or healing?"

"It's nice to meet you too," the boy replied automatically as he found his way into the chair. Twisting for a moment in his seat, Alair thought hard. "Well," he said finally, "I know a little about Penicillin 'cause that's my scroll. It's an anti-biotic and uh.. it doesn't make everything better, 'cause it only works on bacteria and umm.. some people are allergic but only if they swallow it. Um.. That's really about it.. Oh! And always wash a cut with soap and water," he added on.

"Good, good." It was only a little basic knowledge but it was good to see he knew a little. "What you said about penicillin is right. It can be a very useful medicine but only if it is used properly. For example, did you know that some bacteria are resistant to penicillin? If you treat a patient with too much they could eventually wind up being infected with nothing but penicillin resistant bacteria."

She motioned to the the jars on the desk infront of her. "Like all these herbs here penicillin comes from nature. However as I said everything needs to be used in moderation. Throughout your lessons I'll teach you how to properly use penicillin and other medicines, as well as other skills. Though for today we will stick to some basics." She paused realizing she was rambling on a bit. "Sorry I really prattled on there. Are you following me alright?"

"Really!?" the boy burst out at the end of his teacher's speech, "So if there was a bacteria kid, they could be like...super strong against me or something?" Alair grinned, kinda enjoying that thought. It wasn't so much that he'd enjoy getting beaten up but the idea that someone could be super strong against just one person was kinda cool. He furrowed his brow as he thought the rest of that sentence through. "So if people take too much they get more sick?" he asked, trying to clear the subject up.

Without out even a pause to let Alera answer his first question, Alair jumped onto the next one. "So do all medicine's come from nature? 'Cause I don't think that Papa goes out side and picks the cherry stuff from the trees.." The boy sounded doubtful as he asked the question. He hadn't *noticed* any medicine trees around...

((Sorry it's taken me so long to respond, I was sick the first week and then away on Spring break right after that..))

((Not a problem at all, I'm sorry about my delay. I had a few papers to write and have been quite busy))

Alera laughed. He seemed very enthusiastic. That was good. Not too many had any interest in healing these days. "Well...I suppose its something like that. And yes taking too much can make someone very sick. Too much of anything, even something healthy can be harmful. and as for your other question...."

Alera picked up a nearby jar and spilled some of the dried herbs it contained onto the table. "These for example are willow leaves. They cna be used to treat fevers and the bark of the same tree is effective for helping headaches. Many medicines can be found in nature if you know the right plants to look for. Though not all medicnes are all natural alot of made by scientists." She pulled a box of cold pills out from a desk draw and held it up as an example.

Alair nodded deeply at the woman's answer, making a note of it. The penicllian kid listened as the woman continued talking, waiting to ask his next question.

The boy sat quietly, thinking as Alera picked up the jar and the pills and began to explain the difference between each of them. Finally he found a pause to ask his questions. "So... how do you know how much to give?"

((Yeah, it's heading towards summer and I know how busy people can get))

Alera pointed to a lable on the back of the pill jar. "With most manmade medicines you can find a reference on it on the jar. I however like to use my own judgment at time too." She indicated the jar of herbs. "Not all medicines have nice instructions telling you how much to use. A patients age and weight are an important factor. When applying topical remedies there is even more to consider." She smiled. "It can be a bit hard to learn but dont worry. We will work on that after I have taught you more of the basics."

Nate screwed his nose up at the woman's explanation. Too bad it seemed like a lot of guess work but maybe there was some better way she'd show him later. "Okay.." he finally said, before wriggling in his chair, wondering what was next.

((*smacks head* I'm soo sorry I forgot about this. I'm not usually on this account and I just completely forgot. I'm so sorry.))
