Insomnium is a melodic death metal band from Finland. Seeing as they're a pretty young band, they're strongly influenced by the Gothenburg scene, but no one will mistake them for metalcore; their sound is a lot like early Dark Tranquillity but with a distinct Finnish touch. Folksy, Amorphis-esque acoustic intros and bridges as well as elements of doom--slower-tempo breaks, heavy atmosphere, and the distinct monotone backing vocals--make them more than just a clone. Very quality stuff.

Listening to Since The Day It All Came Down, and really liking it. Don't hear any Doom in it though.

I think "In the Halls of Awaiting" had a little more of that influence. I don't have that record, so I couldn't tell you exactly what to look for.

There were slower, acoustic passages, but they weren't Doom, more like darker folk-ish stuff.

Well, you're the expert in that field, chief. I won't argue.

But then I also don't consider My Dying Bride to be doom.

It's really just slow, atmospheric Death Metal. A few Candlemass-esque riffs here and there, but not enough to change their genre.
