Insomnium is a melodic death metal band from Finland. Seeing as they're a pretty young band, they're strongly influenced by the Gothenburg scene, but no one will mistake them for metalcore; their sound is a lot like early Dark Tranquillity but with a distinct Finnish touch. Folksy, Amorphis-esque acoustic intros and bridges as well as elements of doom--slower-tempo breaks, heavy atmosphere, and the distinct monotone backing vocals--make them more than just a clone. Very quality stuff.Official band homepage"Disengagement""Mortal Share" video

Listening to Since The Day It All Came Down, and really liking it. Don't hear any Doom in it though.

Gravechylde Listening to Since The Day It All Came Down, and really liking it. Don't hear any Doom in it though. I think "In the Halls of Awaiting" had a little more of that influence. I don't have that record, so I couldn't tell you exactly what to look for.

Well, you're the expert in that field, chief. I won't argue.

A few Candlemass-esque riffs here and there, but not enough to change their genre.
