Lanter froze at the sound ahead of him and recognized the flash of color as those belonging to his hunting partner. Then he spotted the squirrel it was heading straight for a tree of course. "I don't think so buddy," he said leaped into action. A jump forward and a quick turn revealed the mask marking on his side which startled the squirrel. Not sure where to turn now it turned in the direction of Lanter's real face and the kylan pounce grabbing the rodent between his forepaws. "Sorry little guy but the lady's gotta eat," he said as he held up the prize by its tail. "For you fair lady?" he said grinning.

After chasing the prey from hiding, Heoh found she could do little more. Despite her speed, the tiny, nimble creature was even faster than her. It definitely would've done her no good to stalk such a thing along. Watching Lanter finish the job, she couldn't help but be impressed by his use of his pelt markings to confuse the little creature. He was a good hunter, she thought, despite the childish air he'd given off when she first met him. Padding up, she grinned. "Why, thank you." Taking the offered meal, she settled down, starting to pull away the less than satisfying fur. "This thing's way too tiny for the both of us," she commented idly. "If you're hungry, we'll have to find something else."

Lanter grinned again. "Don't worry about me, I'm fine. I just wanted to help you out since I probably scared things away when I was playing in the snow." He backed off a little to allow Heoh to enjoy her meal. He knew some didn't like being watched while eating so he looked around the clearing they had skirted in their hunt. "This is a nice area, glad I passed through today," he said quietly mostly to himself.

Distracted by eating, she nearly missed his final comment. After all, it had been so quiet. Had it even been meant for her? Lifting her head from the cleaned bones of the once-squirrel, she tilted her head, licking her chops. "Is it really so great?" she asked idly, not to seem unimpressed, but more to see what he found interesting about it. With the snow covering so much, she could barely find anything so beautiful about nature. Now, the colorful leaves of fall... They were amazingly beautiful. Or maybe she was simple biased because she was one of the carnivorous Kylandrei and the winter generally made hunting unpleasant.
Rising to a stand, she kicked a bit of snow to cover her meal. She was still a bit hungry, honestly, but was content enough as it was. Looking to Lanter, she continued to await his reply.

Lanter looked around some more considering the question. "There's just something about the promise beneath the snow. The fact that in spite of the noise I was making earlier and the time of year there was still hunting to be had. This place will be so full of life come spring and summer." Being a child of fall himself it still was odd to him to like winter so much. Then again there wasn't much in life that he find something to like about.
With a wink and a grin he added, "Of course it could all just be because I'm in good company."
