Ahem. Let me see if i remember it all.
When a person dies, before they are allowed through to paradise they must first be tested. The heart of the person is set on a pair of scales. If the heart is lighter then they pass onto paradise. If not they are eaten by something. I forgot what though

No lighter got them through. But you're probably right on what eats them

Quote: The ancient Egyptian Hall of Maat is where the judgment of the dead was performed in the afterlife. This was done by weighing one's heart (conscience) against the feather of Maat (truth and justice). Here we see Anubis leading the Dead to the scales of Maat. Anubis weights the heart against the feather to see if he is worthy of joining the ancient gods in the Fields of Reeds . Ammut is also present, a deamon is waiting to devour the Dead's heart should he prove unworthy. Thoth stands to the right of the scales recording the results. Having passed this test the Dead is now lead by Horus to meet the King of the dead, Osiris. The throne of Osiris rests on a pool of water from which a lotus flower is growing, upon the lotus stand The Four Sons of Horus Behind the throne stands Isisand her sister Nephthys. Osiris, the king of the Underworld, under whom the blessed Dead hope to spend eternity in afterlife performs the final judgment of the Dead, to determine if the deceased was worthy to enter the realm of Osiris in the Fields of Reeds. The Hall of Maat
