If anyone can inform me on what to expect when I join the National Guard I would appreciate it. I am wondering about the Induction center, and Boot camp. Any info would be appreciated, thanks.

Well, lets see here. *wades through the sea of paperwork that comes with joining* oh yes. Alright, first step, talk to a recruiter, find out if the guard might be good for you. Second step, MEPS = Military Entrance Processing Station. Involves lots of waiting, a physical, blood test, drug test, paperwork, more paperwork, and then you swear in. Then its time to go home. After you get back, depending on your ship date, you'll either ship out, or have RSP ((Recruit Sustainment Program)) drills. You get paid for these drills, where you learn the basics of the Army, PT, and have a hell of a good time. After you ship, your bootcamp will be the same as all soldiers, varieing only because of location of training. Then you have AIT, and after that, you go home, where you drill on the weekends, or, depending on your MOS ((Military Occupational Specialty)), you'll work at either an armory, or vehichle depot. You'll be eligible to deploy, take more classes, work as a civvie, and live a normal life, if you so choose.

Expect longer paper processes than any other branch. (Apparently there is a priorty scale among branches)
Expect THE BEST basic training
Expect THE BEST Benefits
and if ANY democrat gets elected. Expect to be pulled from war VVEERRYY quickly
GO HUCKABEE
yah lots of stuff is better in NG its just that we arent recognized as much as the other branches

Oh, you do get the BEST benefits. You have access to State and Federal funds, meaning you can go to just about any freaking school you want. The pay is pretty sweet, the training is amazing, and, depending on your MOS, it can be hella lot easier to gain rate than anywhere else.

Texas Army National Guard....can I get a HOOAH?
But in all seriousness, yeah, National Guard has the BEST benefits of any branch, especially if you're looking into college. I only recommend active duty if you plan on going in as enlisted and plan on staying, or if you're elligible to go OCS right after BCT.

Ohio Guard here. It's pretty awesome. And I have to agree with what's been said so far. The benefits are awesome. But yea, expect a ton of paperwork, especially prior to MEPS.
