How about the 1812 Overture? It's a really popular piece of music.
If that's not what you're looking for, maybe look up some Bach or Mozart? Or old music that kind of reminds you of church? I don't rememeber the name for it, but we learned it in music class in grade nine.

He destroyed my life...
I spoke to my ex, he says he has a piece of music that should do good. He said it is hard to come by or something. Now I will destroy him.

You could the Inuyasha battle themes....
Braveheart theme song ^-^
Maybe some Wagner...that'd be good. domokun
You could Hymn to the Sea..it's from the titanic. And it's wonderful for those intense, slow-motion scenes...tears running the main characters eyes. crying "For honor! for glory!"
God of War is a wonderful piece for the climax whee

((if anyone would like to make a few more suggestions, our play is both historical and comedy 3nodding so extremely tragic or dramatic music might not suit xp ))

Oooo!!!
My brother just suggested the Blue Danube (though he called it 'The Balloon Music' sweatdrop )
Music like that would be really great. 'Cause our film is a bit silly rofl We're using the Imperial march from star wars to introduce parliament xd

Well, if it's a serious piece of music.. I know a song called "River Side" by Joe Hisaishi. It's really sophisticated sounding XD
And if it's not-so-serious, then I suggest what Grinny said: 1812 Overture. Or, I suggest doing Vivaldi's "Four Seasons" part.. the most famous being the winter piece, called "L'Inverno".
>_> Yeah, I kinda took a classical music appreciation class, so I kinda know these things XDDDD
EDIT: If you don't know what L'Inverno is, or how to look for it, the easiest way it to look up "V" by Taka. Y'know, the DDR song. V is basically a techno remix of the winter part of the entire concerto, but you can still hear the heavy violin music in it, because it's based off L'Inverno xD It just.. has a bit o'techno ^^;.

 Follow your common sense You cannot hide yourself behind a fairytale forever and ever Only by revealing the whole truth can we disclose The soul of this sick bulwark forever and ever Forever and ever
 Did I hear classical music? -squee- My obsession in life. Let me go through my data bases real quick! -is total music nerd- ^_^;
The only thing is I don't have any Renaissance pieces under my collection...earliest I have is Baroque I believe. And Baroque is usually really light, and you'll want something more heavy. So, I'll just go through my classical pieces and try to find random ones.
Ok, this wouldn't work, but if you ever have to do something you need for like an Arabic scenish thing, use Saint-Saen's Bacchanale from his opera Samson Et Dalila, its an ever so awesome piece that's actually about a man falling in love with an exotic dancer and everything... I love it to death! But actually his Danse Macabre might work!
Ok, this isn't from that era, but it might work for a battle scene. Chostakovitch's Symphony 5 (I think that's the one), and Movement IV would probably work.
As for Mozart, ever consider his Requiem in D Minor? That's probably his most powerful piece. The third movement would work possibly. Oh, the seventh one is amazing for that as well!!! I mean, except it starts off with a powerful male part, then it backs off and the female part is like a glimmer of a calm in the storm or something wonderful piece!!! If you've ever heard Evanescence's Lacrimosa, the string and choir part of that is actually Mozart's Requiem (the eight movement).
The fourth movement of Beethoven's 9th symphony...parts of it would work... possibly parts of the second movement as well... And Symphony 5! Might not work, but its wonderful and very popular!
Oh my goodness! Richard Wagner's Die Walkure: Walkurenritt is the Valkyrie song! xD I love that to death!
Stravinsky is also a good composer. The Petrouchka is one that is comical. He also wrote the Rite of Spring, and FireBird Suite.
Ok, sorry that's such a long list. If you do want ones that are more light, I'd suggest looking into Vivaldi and Handel. Dvorak and Tchaikovsky are also wonderful composers, as well as Rachmoninoff. My teacher recently told me about a group that does some Renaissance music "Dead Can Dance", and then Haggard is a group I like that does "Classical Metal" (some of their pieces are just plain baroque). Hehe, my list is extremely random, I've never put music to a movie before, so I hope maybe my random list will help to some extent. Good luck!

 Ok, one more list of some ones that are comical, and I promise I'll stop after that!
Petruska by Stravinsky(I do believe I spelled it something else in my previous post, I think there's multiple spellings) is basically supposed to be a puppet show, so it is comical.
Carnival of Animals by Saint-Saens in my eyes is comical (hence 'carnival' xD).
Chostikovitch's Symphony 5, movement II is comical in my eyes
Copland's Rodeo (yeah, a little modern for a medieval movie xD)
Joyeuse Marche by Chabrier (I can't remember the spelling, we just did this piece in Area All State orchestra, so the composer's name is evading me).
Sun Dance by...gah I can't remember the name of who wrote it! Grr.... >.<;
-makes herself stop before she starts putting her whole collection down-
