Music is haram.

Some emperors have banned music for islamic teachings like Aurangzeb..

But can anyone tell me why music isn't allowed?

Also can someone help me quit the habit of music!?

Music IS haram.

I mean people listen to it to relax

But people can gain peace and comfort for reading the Quran.

Nope. Every single pieces of music are Haram. Hip hop, soft songs, soft rock, everything.

But can I ask anyone how to quit the habit!? Its really hard to if your addicted to Music... I don't listen much to music now but can anyone please tell me to cut off the habit forever?

you can listen to Music on occassions.. weddings, birthday parties, etc. But on ordinary days (and deathdays) then Music is not allowed.

Assalamu alaykum,

I used to believe firmly that music was halal with no restriction. Then I began to hear the opinion that it is haram. That always stayed in the back of my mind, and Alhamdulillah I've cut down a ton. I still listen to some because I don't believe it's haram just yet, but I'm taking the safer side of the middle path... One thing that helps is to listen to Qur'an mp3s, such as from www.mp3quran.net

Also, music is allowed on weddings, Eid, and as a morale-booster during war. However, I never heard the birthday parties themselves were even halal!

I don't quite understand. If music does not prevent us from the worship of Allah, i.e., missing prayers because of loud music, etc., how is it haram? What about if music puts me in such a great mood that I feel like breaking out a Qur'an and reading from where I last left off? Thikr can be interpreted as music, as well. I've have seen/contributed in many instances where a group of Muslims and Muslimahs praise Allah many times over by way of harmonizing and using drums. The women and men were separated. Is that haram, too?
