Okay, I haven't really researched this at all, but... breastfeeding, and women getting sued for publicly breastfeeding their children... I know there was a lady with a baby on a plane, and when she began to breastfeed her baby people were disgusted/very annoyed, and I think that's absolutely ridiculous.

Okay, in public, it's kinda disturbing since no one does that... like going to the library and some woman is feeding her kids...by a table where all the little kids sit?
No...not good.
Besides, some men would see that and try to get her later. (over here you have to worry about how much skin you show. Girls get kidnapped almost every month for wearing a miniskirt.)
on a plane shouldn't annoy people. Everyone is supposed to be super bored and watching a lame-a** movie, right? xD

As someone mentioned here earlier, there are alternatives to breastfeeding in public while still using breast milk. Plan ahead and pump your milk into a bottle. If that's not available because you forgot or used it up, then have the decency to cover up. Not only is indecent exposure illegal, but it makes people uncomfortable (probably in part because we don't want to be considered perverts for accidentally looking). Babies have to eat but we don't have to see it, even on accident. Cover up and then everyone should be happy.

exactly! I mean go in the bathroom or something if you are out of milk in a bottle. I know bathroom stalls are germ ridden and nasty but you don't have to rub your boob on the toilet before you feed your baby. And you don't HAVE to go in the stall. Just stand out of the way so people don't have to squeeze by you and I doubt any fellow women will say anything.

I don't think a woman should just be sitting there uncovered booby hanging all out and feeding.
I think they should be able to do it where ever they need to though as long as they are covered.
It's not that hard to throw a little baby blanket over yourself and feed your child.
Boobies need to be covered up, it is the polite thing to do. xd
If it's enough to have a shirt covering up your boobs then I don't see how a blanket wouldn't be enough.
There are woman who go out practically showing off most of there boobs anyhow.
If it's just the act of a woman breastfeeding that grosses people out..
well then it grosses me out when people eat with there mouth open
Maybe they shouldn't be allowed out in public places either?

How epically retarded. How can doing something normal, biologically natural, and definitively human be offensive?

If your children are hungry, feed them. ( I believe this surpasses common sense, as it's an instinct)

It's not the breast feeding I have a problem with. It's the babies.
I don't like children.
I don't like the thought of it sucking on me and I don't like having it rubbed in my face.
I was watching a scary movie in theaters a while ago and this lady next to me started breast feeding their kid next me...like in the seat right next to me....it kinda grossed me out.

Wow, skimming this thread, I'm seeing a lot of good points and a lot of hyperactively retarded points. The question, if I remember right, is should a woman be allowed to breastfeed in a public place... Let a mom put a few cents in on this argument so maybe retardation goes away.

Breast milk is THE be-all-end-all of what's best for a baby. Everything that child needs is in that milk, from nutrition to antibodies. So, that ends the 'what's better' sidetrack.

Pumping the milk. This is something many women who breastfeed actually have a problem with. PUMPS ARE UNCOMFORTABLE at best. Oftentimes they don't WORK. PERIOD. So. Your pump doesn't work right, you're engorged and OMFG painful because every little screaming kid on the plane/bus/in the play yard is screaming to make your breasts produce MORE milk, and yours is hungry... To hell with the prudes, I'd sooner have a play yard full of feeding mothers taking proper care of their infants than women who are in agony because some whiny-a** little politico-wannabe has made it impossible for them to do their biological duty and their natural RIGHT all because WAAAAHH BOOBIES, and *gasp* taking it OUT on their kids...

If you actually have an issue with a mother feeding her child au'naturale, you may want to look into the real reason as to why YOU have the issue, and not condemn every intelligent woman out there for doing her best for her child, even if they are sitting right next to you on the bus.

That's one of the best arguments I've seen in this forum. Well done.

i've been getting slack because i said i wanted to breastfeed any children i had (i got made fun of for my big milkbags, so might as well put them to good use), and a lot of it is that i think that (mostly in america) we live in a puritan society where nudity is the devil, and that would constitute this as a reason. while i think some precautions should be taken (go somewhere fairly private if you must, and cover yourself up as best as you can. don't just bust it out and go with it), i think that it's pitiful that it's being made into a big deal

My answer is going to be simple.

Yes, they should be allowed to breastfeed in public. If that's their choice, let it be. They could bring a bottle with them or something, but if a kid is hungry and you DON'T have a bottle ready, you shouldn't be patronized for doing so.

If a mother DOESN'T bring a bottle with her, because she WANTS to breastfeed the child in public, however, I believe that she should bring some sort of cover. Working at Sea World, I actually saw this happen more than once, and the people put a blanket over themselves from the shoulders down so they wouldn't be exposed.

Ending, I'm for mothers doing so in public, but just so that people don't go batshit crazy they should cover up as best they can, or try to make it to somewhere a little more private.
