First all, how do we spell that word? Delimma? Dilemma? Dilimma? I can never seem to remember (and I'm too lazy to find a dictionary).

Anyways, in my primary Mud, AlterAeon, players can invest in player-created clans, get people to join, and all that jazz, much like these Gaia Guilds. The clan can be themed, or just a coven of other players. However, a character can only be a member of one clan at a time.

My particular clan, Blackwind, is fairly new (but not the newest) of the clan list. Our leaders are fair, just, friendly, and powerful characters. We believe that our clan is sacred, so all members must be loyal to only us, but we in turn will return the favor by helping each other out, no questions asked. Many other players have come to either look up at us in awe, and other look down at us with scorn, but we don't really care. We have each other, and that is all that matters.

Recently, the elder of an older and use-to-be more powerful clan approached our head elder and offered a merging of clans. Recently, their membership has been rather low, and they have been bumped down several notches on the power ranking scale (we are number one, and we pride ourselves in that fact). So they offered that our clans merge, our clan space doubles, and they use us for strength while we can use them for knowledge of the lands and quests.

Since we are self-righteous bastards, we shot them down. The fine print basically said that we were going to be absorbed into their clan, and we were going to be their slaves. We weren't going to have any of that.

Instead, we are trying to come up with another offer, where we are merely partners, yet still independent. We sign a truce of friendliness, and help each other out whenever we can, be it our strength or their wisdom.

What I am asking from everyone is what should we include in this proposition? We need terms and conditions to make sure that this truce doesn't come back and bite us in the a** later on.

Any ideas?

I say you should take your truce with a watchful eye. You are, it seems, the stronger of the two guilds. I personally agree with you refusing their offer, because, to be honest, it was a lot like they were just begging to merge and to become populated again. If a guild falls, then it isn't a good guild. Personally, I would just make them a guild ally and keep as much trust as you can with them. Again, keep an open eye out for them...

What that guild should have done though was asked smaller guilds to merge with it. The fact that they asked you to merge while you're much stronger then them shows how desperate they are. Desperate guilds are BAD news..

Least you can do is just keep your eyes open and don't get too comfortable...
