This is a thread about making the perfect thread. One in which people will have reason to return regardless of the current content. A thread that isn't a post in it once, then forget about it.

Have your own ideas about making the perfect thread? Post them here, with a reasoning behind it, and a counterpoint. Though, if you can't come up with a counterpoint...allow others to counter it also. If you disagree or agree with a point...voice it.

An example. All threads should have a poll, it attracts people more, though it also spams the forum with [poll] making it stick out less...

Also...lastly I'll try to keep a log of all the ideas that weren't completely shot out of the water.

I think all Open posts should be of reasonable length and have good spelling and grammar.
If someone goes into a thread and the first post just reads " hi ppls i was just lik thingin wat u all thort about lyf and stuf" they are just going to leave and think... What a stupid thread, and stupid person for that matter.

I agree with said point...though...I type well...so...I can't really say...though...I think if you type like that..you'll attract people like that.

I couldn't even type like that if I wanted. Though I do remember when I first joined, I left out punctuation and capitals. Then Alamoria told me to type properly or people would think I was a n00b/stupid.

Eh, more so the elitists....but honestly, why not type the whole thing out? confused I mean...not typing everything out just shows that you're too lazy to use proper English, and that I shouldn't try to get to know you...or something to that effect, because you're not taking the time to make your post understandable. Unless it's an emergency, and you need the post out as fast as gaia will you...type proper.

Another point to add, a lot of emotion comes from where you pause your sentances...or if the sentance is worded as a question, ect. I've noticed that quite often, I use question marks -way- more often then I should...and use ellipsis instead of most other forms of puncuation.

Meh. Just my thoughts. /rant

Yes, an ellipsis, one of my favorite ways to end things as well.

Right.. elitist, not "people." Oh by the way, Take June 7th off and go to my house for a BBQ.

Kinda...need...more notice than that... ninja They like a little more than 3 weeks notice for asking things off...cause they make the schedules 3 weeks ahead of time...or something like that.

3 weeks is enough for everyone else's job.

As far as I know, the only place to get one... other than shear luck of finding one at a store...is ebay. ;D

My "The Thread That Will Never Die" was probably the best example of a "perfect thread". Granted, it didn't last forever, but the candidness of the title made it a long lasting entity.

Points.
-Nice environment
-Host devotion
-Theme (if possible)
-A willingness to roleplay (just a little bit)

From my personal experience.

A nice environment isn't always the way the go depending what you're trying to do. I've seen hostile threads by Hazy where he only posted like 3 times and got hundreds of pages...

Host devotion is normally a must until the thread has an established amount of people posting in it. Even then, normally you don't get any new posters after a few pages of content, unless the thread has tons of pages or a title that makes people want to say something.

A theme is nice for attracting certain people and keeping other people away, it sets the tone of the thread and tells people what they should be posting about. A vague theme such as "The thread that will never die"...they could post anything...and they'd be on topic.

Roleplaying falls in with theme, it'll attract some people and deter others.
