So, apparently books are going to slowly die out.

I want to be a librarian sometime in this lifetime.
For I luff books, and I luff libraries. I hope books don't go away..

In the same way vinyls were replaced by CDs and CDs replaced by ipods.
They say downloadable books will be the way to go.
Hm.
Writers of such articles are much too pessimistic.
Maybe eventually books will be replaced, but in this lifetime, I cannot imagine something like that happening, can you?

Downloading books has its benefits: less trees to be made into books, less areas replaced by libraries. But libraries do serve as some sort of haven to most.. even if books were replaced and put on a computer, somehow, somewhere someone is not going to have a computer, and will want to go somewhere quiet to have access to reading.

Plus, although we wouldn't have to cut down as many trees, we would still have to get enough energy to power a lot more computers running a lot more of the time. Would it be more expensive? Would it really be better then what are system has now?

I cringe at the thought of books appeal dying down for society, and what it'll mean for us when they do. Was it perhaps we were too lazy? Does this make us more dumb?

Whoever wrote such an article needs to be shot execution style. I actually prefer reading books in book-form, compared to reading it online. I have a hard time keeping track of where I am unless I have a bookmark or my hand to keep track of the line on a tangible form.

So, for me and many others out there who have the same or a similar problem to mine, paper books > web books.

Besides, you don't have any idea how people can edit this crap, and if you make it like a PDF file, there's going to be many programs that'll be designed to read the files, and some will charge you a fee, and someone'll make money off it. Some people will collect volumes and volumes, and hard drives will end up larger and larger until we have them in sizes of 500 TBs. Holy s**t, that's lots of space.

LOL

Won't happen.

vinyls, cassettes, CDs, and ipods are all centered around producing an audio sound and with iPods, being a fashion accessory.

Books, in addition to having words, are also sensually more pleasing then book readers and reading online. looking at a book causes less eyestrain then looking at a back lit CRT or LCD monitor. plus if you fall asleep and drop your book it's less damaged then if you drop, say, your laptop.
