Okay, the guitar has steel strings no matter which you use, so which do you rather use?

Endure the weeks of pain to get calluses

or

risk not being able to tell which fret you passed with the protection of a glove?

I already have calluses soooo... yeah

Pain.......no pain no gain
I started out playing piano so I take the same approach with guitar and finger pick..needless to say I keep my nails long pirate

gloves would be stupid, because after a few days the pain would go away.

pain. i get enough of it from guard as well as when i learned the clarinet [hence calluse on teh side of my thumb] so why use a glove? plus if you ever have to play without a glove you'd be screwed...

Gloves deaden your fingers. Not to mention in order to cut the possibility of callouses they would have to be fairly thick and they might deaden the other strings. Even if it's cold outside, if I wear gloves, I cut the fingertips off of them. No point in losing sound quality because of cold or pain.
