Sparry stared at him, perplexed. That was a really dumb reason. Adults? Adults? A real pirate didn't run from any stinkin' adults. A real pirate would've attacked them and seen what they knew. She studied Percy's face and thought about how pathetic he looked, groveling like that.
"Coward," she spat, and then gave his ears a swift and thorough boxing before hurrying off down the path towards the Rodger. She'd meant to beat him up worse, but he'd just been too pathetic to make it worth bothering!

Percy fell to the ground with a thud. The pain from the beating was bad, but that wasn't really what was on his mind.
Coward? He thought. Yeah, everyone keeps calling me that, but they weren't there, were they? Would Sparry really attack them if she saw them? He was just trying to save his own a** here!
In the end he was glad and relieved, as usual, that he had gotten away with little damage; but something nagged him as he sat there in the dark. Something he couldn't really put his finger on.
