So I've been messing around with a macro lens for a bit, I'd really appreciate a critique if you don't mind hey .______.

People love macros. Its a good thing to experiment with if you are into photography. These aren't quite there... but its hard for me to pinpoint exactly what... The composition is just not quite there. There needs to be a little more interaction in the pepper slices in the first set. Like, overlap some of the colors and try some photos out. The third one is closer, but it looks a little odd since the focus is the seed which are off in the corner of the image. I think the last one is the most successful. The light table was a great way to light them, though. Do more! More more more!
I totally know what you mean I feel like everyone and their mother takes pictures of close all the time. I'm annoyed with the lens though because although you're waaay up close which is neat you have so little depth of field

i feel like the depth of field is too small in these photos I think if the focus was larger it would look nicer

usually, if you're doing macro photography the idea would be to focus on a particularly interesting part of the subject, since basically what you're doing with an ultra shallow depth of field is creating emphasis.
You've chosen the most boring part. I don't really feel like there's anything to these images aside from their being macros. Having them more or les in focus wouldn't do much for me, since they don't really have a focal point to begin with.
Honestly, you might benefit from simply going online and looking at a bunch of macro photography and still lifes

I would like to say that the distribution of elements rather annoys me. The peppers fill the upper half of the images while the bottom half is empty. It creates a lot of weight towards the top and leaves the bottom very loose. I cannot help but lose my balance when I look at these. Page Boy's words on focal points can probably help solve this problem but you'll have to experiment before we can tell.
