Mignon had sounded pretty excited when she'd called Jan's cell a few days back, telling her of receiving her 'job' from a man called Illesi. Naturally, the potato sin'aeis had believed her older friend, and spent some time reflecting on the idea as she tended to her garden. A job. That would make sense. After all, the Sin'aeis were here for a reason, no? Chaco hadn't done a very good job with that, you know, educating his 'children'.

Slowly, she agreed that each one of them had abilities for a reason as well, to serve whatever job they must have. And so she was here, at the mansion. A question directed to the friendly robot [whom she'd had to reboot once or twice in previous encounters] led her upstairs to the breeder's room. Two soft, polite knocks, and Jan blew at her newly cut hair.

Time to unlock her job.

Once again, Chaco was in his room when he heard the knock, although this time he was cleaning. His mother had gone on a tornado-like rampage through his room, and everything wasn't where it should be. SO, cleaning time! At least she'd had the sense not to touch Illesi's crystals. The binder had had the sense to not start an argument today, so Chaco was actually in a fairly good mood.

But two door knocks he didn't recognize in a matter of days. That was a good thing, right? He pulled open the door and there stood... Someone way taller than himself. Female, too. It was rare that Chaco felt that his height of 5'7" was short (especially compared to his mother), but... this was ridiculous.

"Uhm..."

"Y'mus' be Chaco." A large, warm smile from the smooth accented girl and she held out a hand to shake his. "I'm Jan, potato's th'food y'used fer me, if tha's more memorable t'ya." Observant brown eyes shifted around his room, settling briefly on the crystals that Mignon had mentioned, before locking back on Chaco's.

Were they the only Sin'aeis with brown eyes...? "I'm 'ere fer my job, y'see."

Chaco was not used to people being that much taller than him, even less used to accents, and even LESS than used to people being this blunt. People usually danced around what they want in conversations. It was the nature of free thinking individuals.

"Uhm... Yeah... I'm Chaco. Er." He remembered her. She was the one with all the freckles. "Ahhh... right. UHM." A nod, and he moved to let her in. "Illesi's, uhm, the one you want." He pointed at the crystals.

Of course, Illesi was already paying attention, "Why hello there. It's nice to meet you, Sjajan." He knew the Sin'aeis' names far better than Chaco did. It was part of his JOB to know them.

Yep. Jan was pretty direct and honest. Not stupid, she just didn't like to waste time. Giving Chaco a polite nod, she stepped around him, effectively removing his stuttering mumbles from the conversation as she moved further into the room.

With gentle hands, she lifted the crystal, so she was at eye-level with the soul inside, reflecting as she ran her gaze over him. "S'nice t'meet ya too, Sir. Mignon was tellin' th' truth 'bout yer looks, I see." Of course, he wasn't exactly her type, but Jan didn't really know that yet. Hopefully he didn't think Jan's picking him up was rude.

"She didn' really go t'th details though, 'bout gettin' my job 'n such."

It caused Chaco to blink when Jan pushed past him, but he really wasn't all that surprised. He tended to... well, to say 'uhm' a lot. It wasn't really a princely thing to do, but when you spend most of your time being picked on by a silver-haired b*****d and have surprisingly few lessons in etiquette, you picked up the habit when people intimidate you. Sad, but true. Or in his case, anyway.

"Thank you, love," Illesi said, grinning. "Yours aren't so bad, either." But she really was quick to the punch, "Well, we'll start at the beginning. What do you think your job IS?" Pity there was no time for flirting. That could come later, though!

Now her sense of humor came out. Jan's grin was a little bit crooked as the blonde tilted her head to the side at his question. "Wha' do I think et IS or wha' do I wish et WAS? I'm a farmer, plain 'n simple, sir, which I s'pose is 'ppropriate, considerin', 'owever, gardenin's my passion." Shrug. She understood that you couldn't always get what you wanted. Still, what if she could change?

It was worth a brief shot. Either way, she was coming out of that room with a job.

Sjajan was right, you didn't always get what you wanted. Which was both a pity and a blessing. It would be impossible for everyone to get what they wanted, or else there would be a lot of supermodels and actors with a hundred husbands or wives. Or both. Y'know, whatever.

"Alas, one cannot change. But you think you're a farmer do you?" said Illesi. Jan would make a hot farmer, especially with hair like that. "What proof do you have?"

Jan nodded in response, expression wry. "Well, e'ry one o' my abilities 'as 'as t'do with plants. I mean, summa th' other sin'aeis git a whole mix o' stuff, but mine 'r all plants." She ran a hand through her hair, thinking. "I'm sure ya know 'em all, mayhap even ones I 'aven't gotten yet. I mean... I jes' know plants, 'n they know me back. I plant things 'n they grow, amazin'ly. Way more'n they shoul', unless tha's my purpose."

The blonde shrugged her shoulders. "So I figure I shoul' go pick up sum o'eralls."

Illesi raised an eyebrow, "I do know them, yes. But what makes you think you're not a a simple gardener?" Once again, the debate began. This part was fun for him, unless the other person was like Mignon and gave a full-force argument from the get go. Those were hard to refute.

"'Cause my powers revolve 'round either plants en general, or producin' large quantities o' 'em. There's no reason t'give a gard'ner summin' like that." Jan laughed, shaking a her head, and wagged a finger at Illesi. She knew what she was talking about. "I kin thin' o' plenty more useful 'bilities fer a gard'ner than I've got."

She looked thoughtful for a moment. "My powers'd have more t'do with upkeep, 'n decorative, rare plants, 'n landscapin' ef I was a gard'ner. 'Stead, it's 'bout produce 'n keeping plant pests at bay." Sounded like a farmer to her.

Dammit, she was as bad (or as good) as Mignon had been, and Illesi found himself at a loss for a counter argument. He really probably should have paid more attention during his lessons; at this rate he was as bad as Ariadn.

No, no wait. There WAS something else. "Well, there's also horticulture. Have you considered your job might be in that?" It was flimsy, but dammit if he wasn't going to continue the argument at least one more round. He really WOULD be on Ariadn's level if he just gave up that easily, and Illesi would rather not be compared to that idiot. No, really.

Of course, as though sensing Illesi's thoughts, Chaco couldn't help but give the Binder a funny look from his position next to the bed (hey, changing those pillow cases is hard work!). What the hell.
