With the death of their parents Andora and Sasha had summarily been sent to foster care. The first hadn't been so bad, Nana and Jiji had been sweet, their own children long grown and moved out. Andy had liked Nana and Jiji, but it wasn't to last long. Nana had fallen down the stairs and that's where the trouble began.
They were just getting to old for this, Jiro Shiga, thought morosely as he watched the two children clamber about his wife's hospital bed. Though the woman was obviously in pain, she gently teased the twins as Jiro thought to himself. He couldn't do it. He couldn't take care of his wife, pay the medical bills and take care of two expensive twins. Sure, they got a stipend but it just didn't go far enough.
The older man settled along one edge of the bed, grabbing Andora just before the girl could push her brother off the bed. “We don't push,” he admonished gently as he settled her on his lap.
“Sorry...” the girl muttered to no one in particular.
With a heavy sigh Jiji bowed his head. “Andy, Sasha..Nana's going to be in the hospital for a long time.. and you can't stay with Jiji anymore. You guys remember Ms. Sanders right? You'll be going with her.” He couldn't stand it. He couldn't watch the two of them. They had made such strides since their parents death. “Give Nana a kiss and...”
The man didn't get a chance to finish the sentence before Andora shoved herself off of him and took off out the door. At the same moment Sasha burrowed into Nana's arms and began to cry.
Andy didn't get far when she ran smack into Ms. Sanders. Much as she squirmed, kicked, and screamed, the woman refused to let her go. “That is enough Miss Andora,” the woman scolded as Andy aimed a particularly vicious kick at the woman's gut. The girl got shoved under one arm like a sack of potatoes as the woman clicked her way down the hallway. Eventually subsiding to an occasional squirm, Andy kicked her heels in time with Ms. Sanders high heels. Click. Click. Click. With a squeak a door opened, though Andy couldn't exactly see where it was. “Andy!” she heard Jiji exclaim with relief and Andy gave an extra kick.
A slight umph echoed from the social worker, though the woman didn't let go or turn around. Jiji's sigh drifted through the room. “Come along Sasha,” Ms. Sanders clipped to her brother. Andy listened to the shuffling sounds of movement before the woman backed out the door. Still denied a last look at her 'grandparents', and another screaming fest, Andy watched the floor recede through the hospital.
Andora was finally let down outside the hospital. Crossing her arms, the calico followed sullenly into the car, staring grumpily out the window. After a long drive the girl was dragged out of the car, and shoved into a small house. Andy stared at the father, mother and two kids in bewilderment. Turning to grab Sasha's hand, the cold realization come crashing in. Sasha hadn't come inside with her.
A yowl rent the air as Andora launched herself at the door. Wildly she pounded on the door, trying to get back at her brother. A hand dropped lightly on her shoulder and everything burst. Hands, fists, knees, everything was flying and the man dropped back with curse. Andy screamed wordlessly at them as both parents began to converge on her. Between the two she was hustled into room and locked in.
“-have to call-”
“-never said-”
“-tomorrow.”
That began the string of foster homes. Every time the same three reasons came up for her rejection, wild, angry and unmanageable. At least until a man came and took her to a strange place- Faction S.
