Sera joins the Union forces at the age 16 by lying about her age. When being interviewed she angers the recruiter who arranges that she be sent to a mechanized unit that would be deployed to the frigid north-western front.
She is assigned to a tank with Mohkano (Moh) Haajk and Luka Roth. They are looked down upon by their peers and treated as outcasts.
They are assigned an older second-rate light tank by the garage, as opposed to the current heavy tanks distributed to the rest of their unit, as they were being punished for an incident while tank assignments were being distributed.
Sera takes the job of gunner on the tank.
During the final field training exercise, they out perform the other squads in the unit and are commended.
Sera is deployed to the North-Western front, where it is almost always winter. They are assigned to the Third Army, which is the smallest of the four armies, and typically acts as a support and clean-up force.
After Luka's promotions, Sera begins to follow her through the ranks, however Sera is always delegated to non-com and field positions because she lacks formal training.
After serving for a few years, Sera becomes Brigadier and second in command to Luka, who has risen to commander of the Third Army by criticized means. Sera adopts Moh as her private adviser. Moh designs the "Grand Drive" which moves the third army from a supporting role to a directly offensive one, and through Luka's masterful execution, cuts deep through the Commonwealth lines.
While traveling in the presence of Luka and Moh, a love triangle develops between the three of them. Sera falls in love with Luka, who returns her affection, although not publicly. Sera is often enters the command tent at night and early in the morning, known only to the late watch.
Moh falls in love with Sera and comes to hate Luka, Luka typically does not express much outward emotion, however it is clear that there is a sort of animosity between the two of them. Sera is usually ignorant of Moh's feelings for her until much much later.
Sera and Luka have 'pet' names for each other, "Sera Lukakano" and "Luka Serakano."
As part of the Grand Drive, they arrive at a location in the vast expanse of plains between the line and the heart of the Commonwealth, it is then that one of the worst winters in recorded history strikes, and communication with the Third Army is lost.
Some time after, the Union suffers a massive counter-attack at the Eastern Front. Previously the Commonwealth did not have the resources or the powerful command required to execute such a tactic, many of the Union generals assumed this was a last ditch effort by a dying army. But it did not end. Some inside sources showed that there had been an upset of leadership inside of the Commonwealth, and that one of their armies was now commanded by a Commandant Roth.
The new commander decimated the Fourth Army, completely overrunning them and erasing their existence. The Second Army suffered heavy casualties, but with troops rerouted from the First Army, they were able to somewhat contain the Commonwealth forces.
It was around this time that the Third Army reappeared. It was under the command of Brigadier Richter. Their forces were severely reduced and had been worn to shreds from the cold and endless wind.
Upon returning to the Union, Sera was taken as a scapegoat and court-martialed. It was widely publicized. She was stripped of her rank and sent to a military prison.
Moh disappeared during the court-martial.
There was a behind the scenes deal between the troopless general of the Fourth Army, who had a place in his heart for her, and the government officials who prosecuted her that allowed Sera to return to military duty under the name Serakano Sera (A Confederate name), but she was not allowed to further advance her rank past PFC due to a marked record.
She disappeared from duty along with her partner-in-arms during a supply run. She is officially considered MIA.
She currently resides in an abandoned house at an undisclosed location. Those close to her question her mental stability.
